basicly a game intro is the very start of the game, like roxas' part in kh2.

usually you have to get through this part of the game to get to the actual game.

so how do you like your games to start out fast or slow.

a fast intro is something like what is in ff7 where the first thing you are doing is trying to bring a bomb to a reactor all while the whole shinra army is trying to have you killed.

in other words the put you staight into the action right from the start, and get's you thinking very quickly about the situation you are in and wondering about why, how, and what for.

a slow intro is more like ff9 [i've only ever played the intro of this game but it to me is the best example], in this game it starts out like an average day the queen is putting on a show for her daughter's brithday. >_> i wanted to kill things.

but other then that these intros are slower to get to the action but if you can play the game long enough to get through these boring intros you usually get to the end of the intro and it often blows you away. but through the whole thing you're asking yourself when does the game actually start.

i'm not sure about any of you but during the intro of kh2 the only things i wanted to know was, where is sora? when does the action start already? when can i kill things? honestly they could have started me on the base of yen sid's tower and just tie in the whole roxas part through trippy little video based flashbacks and i would have been so much happier.

so as far as i go i like being thrown into the action as fast as possible. i would make this a poll but i don't know how to.

It depends on how the game handles its intro. Fast intros are usually good, but the lack of information can be pretty confusing. The infodump required to explain everything slows down the game, and ruins the pacing. The alternative, however, is the player not knowing what is going on for half the game. *coughFF13cough*

Slow intros allow the game time to fully introduce the player to its world but, as you said, it bores you eventually. They can work well from a story perspective though; Roxas's assimilation into Sora wouldn't have been so poignant if we hadn't been given time to get to know him first.

The worst type of intro, IMO, is one that tries to combine the two styles, as seen in FF12. Vaan running errands would have been mildly interesting if that was the entire tutorial, but it was mind-numbingly boring after the faster intro of Reks and co. storming the castle to get to the king.

I like the fast intros! ^^ they are fun and exciting!

Slow intros aren't bad but I prefer the fast... It depends how the slow ones are done.

It depends on the game, really. If it's just an action game that has a story but is mostly driven by gameplay, then by all means give me the quick intro and let me dive right in. But if it's a game with a more involved or complicated story, a long intro is often necessary.

Kingdom Hearts II's Roxas intro could have used to have been cut a bit, yeah, but I wasn't really sweating over where Sora was. They give you Roxas' dreams of Sora, and if you followed the game pre-release, Roxas was a very mysterious character (remember calling him BHK? haha), so I wanted to know as much as I could about him.

Slow intros, it allows me to have a better understanding of the story, especially in RPG's. But as far as fast intros go; I wouldn't mind it either. :/

Fast intros are okay too, as long as it isn't spoiling the game too much

I don't see why everyone wanted to play as Sora instead of Roxas at the beginning of Kingdom Hearts II. Roxas seemed like such a better character, but I suppose for those who did play Chain of Memories you really wanted to know what happened the whole time. Playing as Sora was never really on my mind, though the game actually felt...real? whenever I got control of him. I just waited to play as Riku. For the whole series. Besides that, slow intros are better in my opinion. Unless they can be pulled off like Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core.
