i once heard a theory that proposed that, just as cells make a person, organisms make the planet alive as well. I'm undecided as to what to think of it, but what do you guys think?

It sounds kind of like FF7 to me. I chose to reject it, mainly becuase there's not evidence for it and all the evidence you need against it. It's a nice thing to think about, but I prefer to go with the scientific explanation of the Earth rather than believe something like this. If you could give a source, maybe that would make this something easier to argue, becuase the theory would likely be well thought out and have some background. If you find it, I'd be willing to read it and post my opinion.

I would have to say I don't believe there's an earth 'single conscience' or anything like that if that's what you mean. However, there's nothing to prove or disprove it exclusively. I do feel there is spirit energy and such, but nothing that draws on a singular personality to say that the earth is 'sentient', though I do see from a scientific standpoint, that there is a charge and energy to matter and all.

a single conciounce? no I dont believe that, I do, however believe in the Gaia Theory(Which was spoken of in FF:Spirits within) where everything has a soul, and sort of lends aid to each other. Trees give people life, people die, and decompose, feeding the soil and giving life to more plants, which allow life for humans.

Plants do in fact go into shock when damaged enough, so they MUST feel pain, in my opinion.

Well, to some extent, that is sort of true. I mean, plants supports all life...

If the earth was alive, I can guarntee you that it would have gotten rid of us a long time ago.

    ^ I actually agree. xD

It's the war, fighting and death that has made us realize that a single organism (earth, in this case) at war with itself is doomed.

Whether or not people want to believe that is up to them I guess? xD

I keep seeing in diasters and such other things that something is trying to keep our numbers down. Could it be something genetic or a "Mother Nature" type power? Diseases like cancer and HIV/AIDS are on the rise and coupled with the increased frequency of disasters it is having a small effect on our population, but utterly failing to slow its growth =_=

Well if you view it on a larger scale, I suppose it could be considered a living thing, with all other living things being its metaphorical organs, blood and cells.

Therefore mankind would be considered a cancer, being far too much of us.
