    Suprisingy serious thread here... O.o;

    Anyways, I was just thinking... Is a funny story funnier when told with a straight face? (Or, in writers' cases... A straight tone?)

    Just a thought - I've been using that trick for a while, and I've never really thought about it... til now...

    In a lot of cases stories are found to be more funny when said in a straight way like that. If the storyteller is in hysterics when they get to the humorous part of the story there is a good chance the listener will end up missing something. Or perhaps the listener wont find that part funny at all... can you say awkward?

    I dunno, personal opinion. If a story is said with a straight face I can come up with my own reactions to it. Plus I think it adds more magnitude. :3

    Well said. =D Cuz, really - if you think about it, don't you hate it when someone's telling you a joke and they crack up before they even get to the punch-line? DX

    And don't you hate it even more when YOU'RE the one cracking up in the middle of a joke like an id-jut? :sweatdrop:

    Way to completely miss the point of this thread. :3

    I find that if the person telling me the story says it with a straight face and monotone voice, I'll probably not find it that funny. Whereas, if they're smiling or starting to laugh, I'll find it easier to laugh with them.

    They can't be laughing so hard that it's impossible to tell the story. Y'know the kind that take three times as long because they get one word out for every six laughs. Giggles are permitted.

    Stories are funnier when they're told with a straight face. If the the person telling the story is laughing, it's like laughing at your own joke...

    I can understand that, but there's a difference between saying something with a straight face and saying it in monotone. I can't stand to have a person telling me a funny story and they keep on cracking up at every pause.

    Exactly what I'm talking about. XD

    There's a part, too, that I didn't think about. XD

    If you tell someone a story face to face they will give a reaction....If it's on the computer you get an LOL or ROFL but that's probably it.

    My uncle always cracks up before he gets to the punchline.... And I hate it when people do that, cos you'll usually end up missing something and it just ruins the punchline
