Negotiated in secret by 39 countries including most of the EU, US, and Japan? International monitoring? Hampered access to generic drugs? Tell me this is just a bad dream.

What's worse, it's already being signed; check out the timeline on the right-hand side. The US signed it in OCTOBER OF LAST YEAR.

what ever happened to "freedom of speech"? Or the internet being a place where you could freely say what you felt like?
This is what happens to us with government, it becomes full of hypocrites

So... this is something to monitor and censor online communication? I find that very disheartening and a very uncalled for situation. I fail to understand why people think they have the right to monitor and censor what we have to say. Simply repulsive.

Many things are getting worse and worse. The world is getting screwed more and more, with anything and every single thing. I can't believe this is happening.

Keep in mind this is not in spamzone fellas.

But yeah I agree that not only is it not a smart move, but regression is not a good thing for prosperity. Think about it. Online communication begins to cease, youtube and other major sites are blocked or removed because it has copyrighted material on it. How are we going to come up with better ideas? How are we going to laugh at hilarious things and make the world a better place? Either it won't happen, or you'll have to use a pay-phone.

you know, if we were off planet, they technically couldn't say we were doing anything wrong......EVERYONE LOAD THE SPACESHIPS! WE'RE GOING TO MARS!!
BTW, if this was signed by us back in October, what the heck kept it from getting out so long? Was this supposed to be like a last resort?

Actually, I was being pretty serious in that post

To be honest, I think all of these bills are being exaggerated.
    It always happens.

I was just talking to my mom about it; she said they say what they want people to hear so they pay attention, whether it's good or bad.
For example, politicians that are elected: They say what they want people to hear so they get voted, and when and if they get voted, they don't follow through.

Welcome to the global economy. You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

    Well ****.

I thought we were ****ed with SOPA and PIPA, but now we have ACTA.

That either means no pr0n, or we aren't allowed to use Skype and MSN. Right? Censored communications is what I read.

Suicide levels (globally) are going to skyrocket, just because social networks and websites of the sort will get censored.

why the heck wouldn't we be able to skype or msn? That's like taking away...a huge chunk of stuff I can't think of

Let me rephrase that, I'm sorry.

I meant to say that if we say or do something "offensive" on a website, it will be censored.

We won't be able to express our feelings about a politician, per say, on the internet.

    Well...

I've still some hope left. I could always leave for Macedonia, ja... I'm not stuck here. Which countries have been affected? Trying to navigate the site, it's a hassle. I will plead my parental figures for a move, if this is taken into effect-- I highly doubt that such a small country will be affected. Out of the US before then, and hopefully, into an unaffected country...

Pack up your bags, guys. We've still some time left. We flee the states! For liberation. For freedom. Freedom from the land of the "free". *scoffs*

I just find it so discouraging. The government doesn't have enough control of everything? They already monitor our cell phone and land line uses, what else could they possibly poke their nose into now?
I just don't understand. The Internet wasn't called 'World Wide Web' for nothing. It's meant for everyone to enjoy and be a part of, why does everyone have to suffer from some bad things?
This is why we can't have nice things.

I'd been hearing about this all over Tumblr ever since yesterday. It's making me wonder, do world leaders really want to infringe on people that much? Are they that worried about the people they serve doing something? Or is there something even deeper underneath all of these laws...?

to sure they will say things to make you want to put them in office but once they are there the things they do are no joke. Your mom may be smart , but she obviously is one of those types of people who still thing the government isn't corrupt, and she'll soon find out how wrong she is.

The bills aren't in any way being exaggerated, they are vague in their wordings and give alot of room to do things that the govt. shouldn't be able to do. This isn't a trick to get someone elected. This involves THE ENTIRE GOVERNMENT. If it was just something to get someone elected it would involve their opponent or a few officials...not the entire government.

WTF I dont want to use the internet anymore. Just because you move to a un-affected country doesn't mean your safe, other people from other countries might want to try the same thing. Are you still going to hide?
Whats next? Spying on us when we play video games? Like "Oh, this kid doesn't look 18 to play this M game" * they turn off the game system*. Its going to be like that one day if things like this keep happening!
I dont really know what this censorship would be like if it was on Skype.

Please don't insult my mother -- yes, what you said can be considered an insult.
Besides, it's not just her that thinks that way.

    Also, it is exaggerated.
I'm not saying there aren't bad things about it, but whatever it may be, small or big, there will always be exaggeration.

Perhaps if you were to outline some points of exaggeration and put them in perspective--previous examples to compare it to would be a huge help there--we'd be more inclined to think that way, too.
