While revealing literally nothing about the games themselves, Masuda's statement is the very first confirmation that Ruby & Sapphire Gen V remakes will happen. I expect that this announcement will be met with mixed results, what with Gen III claimed by some to be when the series jumped the shark, but personally I'm glad for the confirmation.

10 years anniversary next year, surely they wouldn't miss the chance to make it.
I just wonder what they'll add now, since content wise it has very low potential, even though Ruby/Emerald's my favorite of the series I wouldn't buy it at this point for so little.

well, I would love it if we got the Remakes some time this century. I mean, we already got the Gold and Silver remakes, can't we just get the remakes for Ruby and Sapphire already? Those probably were my favorite of all, and having them remade to the DS would be sweeeet. In order, I probably like Hoenn, Unova, Sinnoh, Kanto, and then Johto.

Soul Silver wasn't a bad game, I just sold it back to gamestop because the plot didn't last long enough. And there weren't really big parts of the game that you fougt Team Rocket, and the final battle was pathetic. I want a game like Ruby and Sapphire that you battle the team more than just a few times. But they had better make them that you can get Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza in the same game

Aw, hell yeah if there is one! I seriously hope that there is, Ruby and Sapphire introduced me to Pokemon properly with the Video Games (main series).

Nintendo wouldn't pass up this chance, would they?
    We shall wait and see.

Eh, I'll get it just for nostalgia. 3rd gen was my least favorite generation. The music was just not that good compared to others. Hopefully the remakes will be better. Wonder what they're gonna do about contests since they pretty much ruined them with the dance hall.

OHH I absolutely LOVED! Sapphire , that was the game that got me into playing pokemon. If they remake it i'm gonna be looking forward to taking the boat rides everywhere and going onto that ship :D that just made my day.

I hope this happens. :) Ruby was my favorite game. Although the original are the best in my opinion. I still think Nintendo should do this. They would make money off of me that's for sure. :)

    I loved playing Ruby.
[The female starter for Hoenn was always one of my favorites.]

They ALSO wouldn't miss the chance to remake Emerald and milk some more money out of nostalgic fans who buy these. I'l probably be one of the suckers who picks up a copy of Ruby because red was always my favorite color, I want to relive my experience EXACTLY the way I did it the frist time, and I enjoy leveling up my Torchic until Blaziken emerges and gets to beat all the Gym Leaders and all of Team Magma's Pokemon.

HG/SS Had plot elemetns out the ass...what ever are you talking about? And you could get Kyogre, Groudon and Rayquaza in HG/SS without too much hassle.

Either way, these remakes should be fun.

This is why it's a terrible idea to trust wikis. He didn't say that. He actually said "Thanks for your thoughts. Ruby and Sapphire are important games to me. I will consider your request."

Why remake Ruby and Sapphire? Because of FireRed/LeafGreen and HeartGold/SoulSilver? Poor reasoning there. The entire point of FireRed/LeafGreen was to fix the huge problem that Ruby/Sapphire had: An incomplete Pokedex and incompatibility with older games. The fact that Gens I and III have story parallels and take place around the same time was done intentionally because they had plans for Red/Blue remakes from the start of Gen III. HeartGold/SoulSilver exist for a few more reasons. They're fan favorites, the original Gold/Silver had save battery issues (IE, the save batteries on most copies of the games are dead thanks to the persistent clock) and they ended the series's dependency on the GBA games to complete the Pokedex. Likewise with Gen III, gens II and IV have story parallels and take place around the same time.

Ruby and Sapphire, on the other hand, are pretty much the polar opposites to Gold and Silver. They're the least liked of the series, there are no story parallels between them and Black/White (partly because Black/White takes place on a completely different continent), Black/White advanced the timeline further than gens II and IV, the series doesn't depend on anything other than the DS anymore and there's not nearly as much fan demand as there was for Gold/Silver to be remade.

The fact that this "confirmation" was either a fabrication on Bulbapedia's part or a mistranslation on their part doesn't help matters.

Are you sure that you were playing SoulSilver? The Johto games are the longest games in the series with two maps to explore (plus the added content of the remakes) and the hardest final boss in the series (Red, whose LOWEST leveled Pokemon is his lvl 80 Lapras and holds the record for the HIGHEST leveled Pokemon carried by an NPC (his lvl 88 Pikachu)). The game is nowhere near over after beating the Elite Four.

IF they do make these games they'll most likely just be Emerald but called Ruby and Sapphire. Otherwise it wouldn't work. They also wouldn't make a Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. They don't remake a remake.
