Firefly, Hannibal, Justified

Started watching today and it's a real mixed bag.

Firefly

The production costs were obviously low, but they did well with what they had, but it constrained the... sci fi-ish-ness of it.
Some of the plots seem a little like old 90s kid movies with associated bad guys, however the characters are strong, diverse and entertaining.

Enjoying it because it's well written and the characters keep it going. That's worth any ****.


Hannibal

This series is kind of artsy, it's a real visual and audio driven sort of show, where the symbolism of images and sound pushes a hidden plot development.
It's very good at disgusting and intriguing you, and really clicks the feel of a cold, calculated bunch of killers. Hannibal being the smartest and the creepiest is perfect. He's very much what the actor wanted to bring to the role, a fallen Lucifer, disconnected from humanity yet charming and alluring in his own dark way


Justified

I love this ****ing series, so well written, smart bad guys and plots with great characterisation. Wish I could understand what half of them are saying though.

Congrats if you read the whole thing. I know the spam zone usually makes your brain unable to hold attention for longer than two seconds. You win.... nothing at all.

 

I read it. Actually saw a few episodes of Firefly. Liked it. The other two, haven't seen yet.

Ain't seen those other two though I wondered what the internet's sudden resurging fascination with Hannibal was all about

 

I've heard good things about all three
I've been meaning to get into more shows in the future
Plus Nathan Fillion and Timothy Olyphant YOU CANNOT GO WRONG WITH THOSE TWO

 

I always feel vaguely smug hearing Nathan Fillion's name. He's from my province.

 

Firefly is more internet known than the Hannibal series and Justified, but all are great shows, just different from each other.
Let me put it this way for people if you want an idea about these shows. These series have familiar feelings compared to other things, for example:

Firefly = Mass Effect 2 (with that mercenary underbelly of the galaxy) and Doctor Who (on a low budget)

Hannibal = Dexter and Criminal Minds, serial killer investigators with one a killer and the other imagining it all the time, both to help solve the crimes

Justified = 24 and The Wire, but in the deep south, with the gangs and the lawmen doing whatever is necessary to get their guy
