Recently got a PS3, today got FF13, 15 hours straight playing this. So far it's AMAZING, but you know that. Anyways, i got a lot of questions now that i turned it off, gameplay mainly. First, i just beat Alexander, and I'm at the open area that has all kinds of enemies, question is, which should i fight? I know some are insanely powerful from other people who played, wanna know who to avoid and who to take on. Second, my team is Hope (Leader), Fang and Lightning. Any recommended setups? I'm also trying to raise Hope's Saboteur and Fang's Ravage & Medic roles, along with their main three main Paradigms. Third, should i worry about my weapons? I've been upgrading the default weapons for everybody up until now, with the exception being Hope, is that a bad thing? They seem a lot better than the newer ones, status-wise. And last, Accessories, I've been using Strength and Magic increasing ones on most characters(exception being Tetraedric Crown and a few Auto-Buff ones), are they worth it? And if so, should I upgrade the +50 ones or wait until i get a better one? Thanks in advance.
I haven't gotten there yet but as for your Paradigm concerns you should really have a few with at least one Medic. Sure it slows down the battle but it keeps you alve. As for the accesories, it all depends on your style of fighting or what battles are coming up.
Hmm...well, there's a massive grinding spot that you could go to. But I suggest that you finish all the missions on the plain. And then grind a bit where the Giant Wolf-thing and Behemoth are. It's a cheap fight and you get 6600 CP easy and they just keep regenerating. Or you could grind first and then go to do the missions. Either way is fine. But I recommend grinding until the crystarium cap for that point for each character's 3 main roles. Do this and you won't get killed at every turn. Hmm...always have a two healer setup ready just in case (Light and Hope, or Vanille and Light). Buffs are your friend from now on, make deadly use of them. Buffs and Debuffs play a huge role in battle at this point, and you'll also need to think beside using relentless assault for everything. It's a complete shift in difficulty. I recommend you concentrate on their 3 main roles. The other roles take an enourmous amount of CP. Most people just go for them post-game. But if you're willing to grind for A REALLY LONG time on the Wolf and Behemoth...then sure go for them. Well, it's up to you, really. It depends on which weapons you want, or what effects you want from them. But if you're gonna upgrade, use the multipliers The shop that sells monster parts and what not? Those are multipliers, you add a lot to the weapon so that it goes into x3 multiplier, and then use other items which raise the points for it a lot, it'll level up fast due to the multiplier. Upgrading them could be a bit of a waste. But you probably have enough Gil by now to do it. I'm not too sure on this one, but that's my view on it, anyhow.
By now you should know what paradigms work and what don't. Although the game just did the big sell to get you to train up other paths to expand paradigms, it simply isn't worth it. It costs more than it is actually worth. Make it a post game activity for the stats but you likely won't use those abilities, there are very few cases where I liked using a path that wasn't natural for the character. What to avoid? the giant tortoises obviously. If you make the mistake of attacking them they will smash you in likely 2 turns. The behemoth is a bit of hit or miss, but largely is not worth your trouble yet. The larger wolves should be the upper end of what you are looking to kill, I tended to avoid them out of laziness. And in the unlikely case that you manage to find the Ochu (large plant like creature), just leave that area. There isn't anything back there yet for you anyway. I never found grinding to be necessary until just before going to the final chapter, but doing the ceith stone missions is practically a must. Although it wasn't executed well the intent was to be unable to successfully beat the two beasts duking it out by the exit, forcing you to continue until you get a chocobo. Unfortunately they are pretty easy to walk past and beating them isn't insanely hard either. That being said it isn't that hard to survive without the added CP, but expect low scores. Chev covered upgrading well. Getting serious with it will either take some learning or a guide. One note though, the game calculates the exp gained and then the change in the multiplier. So for organics you are best feeding them in one at a time, while for inorganics they are most efficient in one lump sum.
I see. I guess I'll do missions first then, the Behemoth alone is already too much of a problem for me, can't afford using Eidolons every time just to come out alive >_> I know, I've been using only Evened Odds and Solidarity so far, Relentless Assault only comes after Light does enough physical hits. I guess I'll put up more healing in that case. And yeah, I guess it's not really worth it, too much CP for little stats. But I'm gonna have to make Hope learn De-Protega/Shellga at least, I know he doesn't have that much health but so far, but i won't be using Vanille for a while. I see, so the only difference between them is the stats. Shame i already wasted all my Perfect Condutors on Blazefire Saber >_< I'll save it up then. I really don't have that much Gil since I've been rushing to get to this place >_> What were those cases? Just curious, because even though they're expensive some do seem kind of useful. So, the bigger, the stronger, no exceptions? Got it. I'm still fairly underpowered though, and since I'm making Hope the leader I'll need to get some more HP for him. I see, so if i give them like, 5 not-organic things I'll have less chances of getting a multiplier than if i do one per time? Thanks for all of these. And just one last question, will there be any more battles with pre-made teams from here on? Excluding Eidolons of course.
If you rushed, it may be a good idea to go for the Behemoth/Wolf battle. They'll always get staggered no matter what. If you use Sazh and Vanille to buff/Debuff Light, the behemoth will go down way fast. Don't worry if it transforms. They won't attack you unless you take too long. By then the Behemoth will be dead. Once he's done for, Vanille will cast imperil on the Wolf and Sazh will use the en-buffs, to give lightning a whooping advantage over the Wolf, once they're done buffing/Debuffing a fair amount, switch to COM/RAV/RAV and kick butt. That's basically the strategy for this battle. At first it may take you a bit, but as you keep going up the crystarium, it'll end the battle in around a minute or so. But have a MED/SYN/MED paradigm just in case the Behemoth does attack you. Use it and quickly change back to another either RAV/SYN/SAB to buff/debuff or COM/RAV/RAV to obliterate. Lightning being the leader in this strategy. Oh, and I don't think there'll be more pre made battles except for the last Eidolon. And yeah, use organic items in good quantities to get multipliers to x3, then spam the non-organics.
Also, you may want to level Vanille's Crystal since she will be used later on for her Eidolon battle with Fang.
I see. I managed to get past those without fighting and grinded a little on some robots, 5100 CP per battle and just a few Thundaras to kill. I'll be shifting to those now then, didn't know they'd fight each other after i hit them. I was expecting that to happen sooner or later anyways, so i been leveling her too. Not wasting time with Snow now though, i like him but using him in battles is just.. ergh Thanks for the answers. This can be closed now or whatever, no more questions.
In my opinion, I feel that the three characters you are using are the best three in the game. Hope#s the best magic caster in the game, Fang's got the highest base strength (iirc) and Light has balance. You can either go the route of doing missins or do what I did and go up past the Behemoth and Wolf to Ma'haraba, an underground area. in this area there's a great area to grind, the enemies are easy and you get good CP. Go thourhg and fight enemies up until the Boxed Phlans, a big fat thing. Don't do this fight, because he's very strong. You can also go through a side-way for fights with Cryobombs which can be easily pre-emptive struck and give good CP, continue here until you reach a fight with multiple hoplites and (I think) a save point. NO NOT GO PAST THIS POINT or you will have to fight a Juggernaut, a much upgraded version of the boss which gave you the Multi-kit. You WILL die if you try to fight him. The areas described are a great place to grind though, Also, the benefit with this party is you have access to all of the Roles: Com from L&F, Rav from L&H, Sen from F, Syn from H, Sab from F and Med form L&H. There's not really much point in upgrading the other (secondary) roles of each character right now - it costs too much CP.
