Ok, I was recently playing CCFFVII, and towards the end of the game, you return to Banora. My question is, was there always a huge supply of mako in Banora, and if so, why was there no mako reactor there, or am I just missing something?

Could have been undetectable at the time, but if I recall, Banora, or at least the area near it did have some sort of Shinra influences in FFVII.

I haven't played the game in a long time, but it always bothered me as well.

It was something about the Mako not being detected during CC. I dunno, Shinra's weird...

You're telling me. In any case, I find it hard to believe that Shinra didn't detect any maco there, considering they had detected it everywhere else.

Oh wait! It has to do with how that's Genesis's hometown.

It's Genesis's Hoemtown, so they likely didn't put a Mako Reactor there because of that. Near the ending (or halfway through),
Shinra bombs the town, and leaves it in ruin. They were obviously planning ahead because if they had made a Mako Reactor there, then Genesis and Angeal went renegade like they did, it would have been destroyed-/SPOILER]

    Just a theory though

    A very good theory too.

Maybe they did explore the underground area, stumbled upon Emerald Weapon (see the picture, it' s not very obvious but it' s there), or Gaia, or both, and decided they' d better not mess with the place.

Maybe the Lifestream is too unstable and/or too diluted to exploit. Banora is on the same island as Mideel. In FF7 it is common knowledge that this town is close to the Lifestream, yet there' s no reactor there either. Shinra might prefer places where the mako is stagnant enough to condensate, or maybe the place was just too impractical compared to other places (less cost efficient to build there, frequent natural disasters or something).
