So I bought this game about a month ago, and now I've got a question...

When does this game get fun? No really, so far the game is an absolute chore to play, with tons of grinding and awful gameplay. I just went and visited pink furry Terra in the town full of criminals and I have no incentive to keep playing. Does it get better?

It never really holds up to any other FF in terms of gameplay. Admittedly, the part you just finished adds a new mechanic, but if you haven't enjoyed it so far, give up.

That is why it's popular. That and the fact that in America they didn't release FF3-5. So taking what was in FF2 and jumping to FF6 you see a bigger difference.

You wouldn't need to grind anymore if you stopped running away from battles.

    Wrong.
FFIV was released under the name of FFII. It's both the real FFII and FFIII that weren't released in the US. And thank god they weren't since those are the weakest games in the series. So there wasn't much of a jump in reality.
The game is pretty popular for its story, characters and main villain.

I haven't ran away from a single battle, I learned my lesson about doing such things when I played X in 2002. Man, I can only imagine the amount of grinding I would have to do if I ran from every battle.

You keep talking about grinding >_> But I've never had to really grind in the first half of the game.
If the game really hasn't enticed you yet, then you might as well quit. If you still want to give it a chance, then keep playing until you get Cyan. Some story elements become really apparent after that.

Game is pretty boring, too many characters with not enough focus on most of them, gameplay is nothing special.

without Kefka I dont believe it would be half as popular.

I'm actually a bit past getting Oldfuq, he's been in my party for at a fair number of hours. Maybe I'm just sucking, but I really don't see any strategy to the battle system, other than attack and heal when needed. And when that stategy doesn't work, grinding is my default solution, which I've had to do in a couple of instances.

But yeah, I've decided to play it a bit further, just to see what's coming up.

That does seem to be the case- right now the game seems to be putting a focus on Locke, who I really don't like. He keeps reminding me of Vaan for some reason.

You never really see anyone talking about the characters of this game outside of Kefka. If another character is mentioned it's usually Terra- and only because of Dissidia.

It reminds me of The Dark Knight a couple of years ago, everybody was talking about Joker, the other characters never seemed to get mentioned by anyone.

I say ditch it and go play V, enjoy the fun job system with good music and a fun story.

That does sound very tempting. Right before buying VI, I saw an image giving quick (and accurate as far as I could tell) descriptions of all main FFs. V did seem to have a really good premise, but I went with VI instead because of all the hype and love around the game.

Yeah, I think I'll just buy V and play that instead. Thanks Vivi.

Playstation Store. I know that they're not the best versions of V/VI, but I'd rather play the games on the telly and this is the only way I can do that.

    I completely endorse that.

FFV translations are a little bit butchered in the ps1 version, but not as bad as IV, you'll be fine.

If it's anything like VII, then the Engrish just adds to the experience in my book.

Final Fantasy V has the best job system in any Final Fantasy game next to X-2
    And delicious Faris.

I meant FFII and FFIII were the weakest game in the series. Don't worry, I have huge love for FFV.
