I'm planning on getting FFXIII, but of course need a system to play it on. I was set on getting a 360, but I was wondering if it'd look better on a PS3 and if the PS3 would be worth the extra money? I don't play games much, so I don't know about the PS3's or 360's exact capabilities or what exact games each system has. Which do you guys recommend? I prefer fantasy games over sci-fi and war, things like that.
Well, I'd normally recommend to look at the library of games each system has. Each system has a list of exclusives games, with different genres. As for FFXIII, we're told that there isn't much of a difference between the 360 and PS3 versions, 'cept that the 360 version has three disks. But, there might be a graphic slight cutdown because of that for the 360. Nothing is known at this point though, so I'm just speculating. If you like Final Fantasy, PS3 also gets FFvsXIII. As for exclusive games, 360 has Halo, Gears of War, Mass Effect...Which are all actually Sci-fi >_> But it has a lot of other games. PS3 has games like God of War, Demon's Souls, Uncharted, etc. Again, check the list of exclusives. Maybe someone else would help you out with other info.
If your getting a console, it really depends on your preference. I'm think the 360 is superior (slightly) for what I want. It has a good community interaction and support with continual improvement, easier to function and the fture shows controless gaming using only your body, voice and expressions to play the game. Whilst the PS3 has many intimidating functions to begin with and also includes an inferior community and functionalabilty, it dominates on graphical capability, includes the ability to use the internet, large memory capacity and a free online service unlike the 360. If your doing it purely for FF go for the PS3, but if your not do consider the 360. EDIT: Oh, and most of the above comments are my opinions and experience, so you might experience it differently to me.
After extensively playing on both systems, in the long term, I'd recommend the PS3. Both can do very similar things, and overall, there isn't a lot of difference between what each system can do in the basics. Specifically however, the PS3 excels. The ability to play Blu-Ray discs and therefore have a lager disc capacity is much handier, the internal hard drive tends to have more memory, although this is dependant upon the model you buy. The PS3 also has a higher graphical quality with a HDMI lead. Also, importantly, the online on PS3 is completely free. Xbox Live requires a paid subscription for online gaming capabilities. The PSN has a great quality, and while Xbox Live has a higher quality, it's not so much that it's worth paying for, in my opinion. The interface on both is fairly easy to navigate, and the functions are relatively easy to comprehend. However, like the previous poster said, it's really down to the exclusives. For RPG's, well they both get their good share, but the PS3 will get FFvsXIII and FFXIV exclusive, and the 360 gets Fable 2 (which is a ****ing awesome game). There are a lot that get on both, such as Oblivion, but it's personal preferances. I'd check the lists if I were you.
ps3 is worth it ps3 uses blue ray xbox 360 uses dvd which can hold more ps3 - which in turn means ps3 is better
You can buy additional memory for decent prices. Plus you don't always need much more than 30 GB, i've not overloaded my memory and i've had my 360 for 3 years. You main bulk of costs for buying a PS3 is the Blue-ray capability and hard drive memory.
Are you willing to pay to play online? I don't like the idea of having to pay to play online even though i've awready paid 40 quid for a game, hence why i haven't - and probably will never - buy a xbox 360. Which is ashame cause the 360 has some cracking looking games. Note: I do realise the 360 online community is fab, but not enough for me to be willing to pay. If you're not planning to play online, Forsaken's post is the way to go. I personally love my PS3. Games like Uncharted, Demon's Soul and LBP are fantastic.
You know you could have looked at other threads to find comparisons between the consoles. I would have made a long, elaborate post that explains what both consoles have going for them, but honestly, I'm tired of wasting half an hour typing when I'm just going to have to it again when the next person wants to know which one to get. Also, this really isn't the best forum to ask, there is quite a bit of bias towards the PS3 here and you're really looking for an objective view that actually gives some info instead of plainly ordering you to get a PS3.
Yeah, it seems the PS3 version isn't that different than the 360 version except for disks but I still recommend that you buy a PS3, it's a nice purchase and has great games. Two of the games for RPGs I'd recommend you to buy are Demon's Souls and Valkyria Chronicles.
If you were a hardcore gamer I would recommend the PS3, for sure. But since you sound like you only pick up a controller once a good layer of dust has set on it, I think (with no offence) you wouldn't be able to get the full benefit of the system, and would be a waste of your money. You sound like you just want it to play games, and nothing else. Though of your a big enough FF fan, then pick the Sony console, it's what XIII was meant to be played on, and i'm guessing in the future most FF games will stick to that console. Oh, and The Last Guardian (successor to Ico and Shadow of the Colossus) is PS3 exclusive, and a fantasy game fit for a wet dream.
I would say the PS3. It's more affordable in the long run, I believe, and it has numorous non sci-fi games. Mirror's Edge is one, though it's an entire game seen through first person, and basically no combat. Short too, but worth the sixty some dollars in terms of the time trials and speed runs and extras. Dragon Age is really popular, Tombraider, Call of Duty looks ah-mai-zing. In short. Do it.
Well, you missed the one stickied on the front of General Gaming, where I've posted my thoughts on the matter a few times, here, most recently. Granted, that was looking at hardware, not software, so I have to parrot the rest of the people saying that you should research the kind of software you want to play on your own due to software being pretty subjective.
By game quality, not worth looking over. The real question is what will you do with the console? Personally, I'd go with the PS3. Because of free internet, great exclusives (Uncharted 2, MAG, ect.), and blue ray. Xbox...ehh not my style. RRODs and overheats aren't me friends. But that's my opinion.
