The title of the thread says it all. Weapons. They're an extension of the arm and foot or a defining metaphor for the individual. Some are very plain, some are very decorative, some are completely out of this world. Anime has seen lots of stylish makes and gimics. What are your favorites? Some things you could discuss:

    - The inherent design and look of the weapon
    - The name of the weapon
    - The capabilities of the weapon
    - The way the weapon is used or comes into use
    - The character who uses the weapon

I would say restrict your picks to those that you can actually wear, grip, or don (i.e. armored suits). No doomsday devices or the like. :P

    Some examples:

Hakuoro's Tessen (Utawarerumono): I don't see a lot of weapons in anime in the shape of a fan. But the animators did an awesome job with it in this series. It's metal, opens and closes, and has been known to block downward slashes from 30 foot gargantuans (you have to see it to believe it lol). Hakuoro uses it mostly for defense, parrying sword swipes and deflecting arrows, and that gives him a "paladin"-esque feel.

Tensa Zangetsu (BLEACH): Please, what more convenient excuse to sport the Facist integrity do you need? Jokes aside, I've always like the look of the Japanese katana, emitting a kind of proud, noble aura from its curve. Seeing Kurosaki Ichigo go from big, oversized blades to this one is an allegory to his maturing spiritual energy. Plus, I've never seen a guard in that shape before. Nice look - Ichigo included, when he does use this weapon.

Go ahead. Swords, firearms, mecha suits, mecha weapons, starfish (CLANNAD lol), or just plain Kinomoto Sakura's winged staff. -_-

Well my most favourite weapon in anime is the Clima Tact that Nami uses in One Piece.

I really like the blue metallic look her Tact has and the fact is splits up into three smaller tacts which double in size when combined gives it that anime/manga mystery thing. It looks new agey and even more whne it's the perfect Clima Tact with those round orb that may contain Dials.

I believe the name derives from Climate and tact as in the three smalle pole she uses are actually called tacts i think.

Originally the weapon came off as a gag item but Nami got creative and made one decent attack with it using her wits. But when it went perfect it became a forceful weapon to deal with and has so many capabilities as when you have cold and warm air and electricity the attacks you can invent are possibly endless.

Nami uses the tact when she needs it and could handle simple goons with it and one tought villain if she tried and thought the fight out. but when it became perfect it was literally a room cleaner (watch the enies lobby arc to understand why). I love how her own idea and genius can be used with her weapon.

Nami was of course unable to really fight in the beginning of One Piece and relied on the crew to help her, but then she realized that the crew wouldn't always be there or even they would need her help at some times so she resolved to find a way to fight on a level to make herself somewhat self dependent in battle. Her persoality greatly changed and developed more after she got the Tact and when it went perfect she was compared to Zoro and Sanji with people thinking she was on their level of battle ability.

so all in all the Clima Tact always gets a 10/10 with me when I saw what it could do it after it went perfect.

    InuYasha's Tessaiga.

Its a big freaking sword, and a strong one too.
people say it has WAAAY too many ultimate attacks, but really, they're just looking for a reason to complain. The attacks are equally balanced, each one a different strenth. The Kaze No Kizu/Windscar is a good attack to be used when fighting an enemy that can be taken down easily, the Backlash wave when fighting an opponent who you are equally matched with, and the Adamant Barrage when fighting a much stronger enemy who you will need to work on to take down.
And really, in the hands of InuYasha it's put to great use. He's strong willed, and because the Tessaiga only works when he feels the need to protect humans, he's perfect because he has the compassion of a human and the will of a demon.

Then there's one of my other favorites - The Death Note

For god's sake, its a notebook. One that KEELS PPLZ.
I mean, think about it, to have the power to control anyone you want so long as they are dead within 23 days, only needing a name and a face? You could pretty much have the world in your hands.
And the way Light uses it is great. To try and use it for other motives than your own selfish wishes is a very noble thing to do, even if some do just consider him a murderer.
Plus, you get a Shinigami. And I'm sure I'm not the first to say Ryuk, Rem, and Shidoh are love<3

    Well I'll start with...

    1. Flash Sword Irene (Claymore), she uses a technique called the "Flash sword" where her enemies can slaughtered without knowing it, looks like this. She achieves this via controlled awakening of her sword arm.

    2. Ed's Arm Blade (Full Metal), Using Alchemy, he can transform his arm into a blade to assist him in battle. Very useful fighting tool.

    3. Lucy's Vectors (Elfen Lied): Lucy has vectors which resonate at a frequency to the point in which they become transparent, and have the power to deflect or destory anything within their range.

    Sven Vollfied's Briefcase (Black Cat)

Well, basically, it's an ordinary-looking steel suitcase, however, it works as a grappling hook, a smokescreen, a flash bomb, a machine gun, a mechanized battering ram, a case for several handguns and specialized bullets, a tear gas bomb and several other things. Honestly, nothing else I've seen can be so convenient and so easy to carry. I have no idea how much that thing would weigh, but with all those weapons and gadgets that can be used in any situation in there, I imagine it would be heavy. Yet, Sven carries it like it weighed a pound. Really amazing.

    Ichimaru Gin's Shinsou (Bleach)

Okay, it's normally a short sword, but, it can extend for an unlimited number of miles at a bullet's speed. That pretty much kicks major ***. A weapon that can hit from close range and far range isn't something to take lightly. Plus, it can make a rain of blades fall out from the sky. And that's just half of it's abilities. Gin's not my favorite character, but he does have an awesome weapon.

D's Longsword: I love how he handles a sword. It's quite like an extension of his own body to give you an idea how naturally he uses it. Dhampir abilities aside, that blade is a deadly weapon. The two movies don't give it justice to the written descriptions in the novels of his exploits with a sword.

Arucard's guns: I don't remember their names off-hand. *Memory so fails in the morning.* But like D, Arucard uses the guns so naturally. There isn't any awkwardness of it, even when he receives the Jackel later on in the series. And even when the bullets run out, he still has plenty of other weapons at his disposal.

Sticking with that same anime, I'd also have to add Roy Mustang's gloves; instant fire is sexy like that. :3 He snaps his fingers, and it makes a spark. He then uses alchemy to condense the oxygen in the air and BOOM- bombs on demand... I think I just quoted the episode word for word... ^-^'

Also, Train Heartnet's pistol from Black Cat. That is epic. A beautiful weapon wielded by a beautiful man. :3

For other examples of beautiful men with a beautiful weapons, Ishida's bow from Bleach, Sasuke's Sharingan in Naruto, and Kanda's Mugen in D.Gray-Man.

What can I say? I like pretty boys who kick ***. :3

Hmm...well for one thing, I love Lucy, Mariko, and Nana's (from Elfen Lied) vectors, which are like, multiple of these invisible hands which can deflect objects, pick up things, even assault/mutilate people...

And I also love Anna's (from Shaman King) beads. They look like a simple necklace, but can be used as the object for several magical spells. For summoning a ghost, exorcising one, trapping a spirirt, etc.
