with everything going on at once in the world nowadays do you think that humans will prevail or fall? What i mean is will society be able to sustain itself for about the next 100-150 years or will it crumble?

Hard to say. I'd say the moment humanity loses its resources to sustain life (i.e. the sun, natural resources to sustain the human population), etc, then that'd be our end.

Then again, there could be someone stupid who ends up causing a nuclear winter and killing off everyone slowly, who knows.

My point: ambiguity of the topic and just simply not having control over what's to come makes this a virtually impossible question to answer.

By the way, your sig is ridiculously huge. You're also breaking the sig size rule by 118 pixels on your height. 500x500 is the limit for 2 images in total.

At the rate we're going at now, it'll crumble.

There's millions of factors going into this that could be turned around to help it, but we remain oblivious to our situation as world leaders only look at short term benefits.

The world could get blown up by a nuclear war tomorrow, for all we know, and we'd have absolutely no control over it.

That's our fate. Today's youth was left with a completely screwed up world by very greedy people.

Well, I've heard that life is going by faster than peoples hearts beat so something happens to their hearts or something, so I don't know about that.

But, what I know, is that when oil, gasses, and what not go out, some of the human population will go out. I mean, look at the gas prices these days, they've gone up incredibly (sp?)!

Everyone's trying to use different kinds of energies, but there is some kind of flaw to them, isn't there? I'm pretty sure that the human race will fall eventually.

What on earth does that mean and how is it relevant to this topic?

The one thing I do agree with is the last paragraph.

I just hope it doesn't happen in my lifetime.

Yeah, I don't know where I got that...

Anyway, what I'm trying to point out is that sometime, eventually, there will be no way around the fall of humanity. To tell the truth, I don't like to think about it. I hate thinking about this kinda stuff because it makes life seem kinda hopeless. So, I'm out.

I'm the same way. There was a time when I thought about it constantly and let the fact that our race is eventually going to self destruct consume me. But than I realized that our race is the only one that lives life with the full knowledge that one day it will end, so we have no excuse for wasting time. I find it easier to just think about small things, but not completely reject the impending doom our planet is inching towards either. The key is balance.

    Yeah.

I mean, I'm kinda religious, but the bible says that when the world is done, then Jesus will come down and wipe evil from the Earth and everyone will go to heaven. Then, God will start everything over again. (Sorry if you're in a different religion) So... I don't know... it just seems it'll happen again...

I exercise my right to be selfish when I say: As long as I die before the world ends: awesome.

    Yeah, same here.

It's kinda selfish, but I hope it comes true...

That is one of the smartest things I've read all day. *applauds*

Well, I really disagree with that, seeing as I'm Agnostic.

There's no need to be sorry, I'm not offended, I just REALLY disagree.

Anyway, we should get back on to the topic of fate. Although I suppose this could fall under that category as well. But we still shouldn't get into a religious debate.

Not many things last forever, humanity is probably not going to be one of those things. Humanity will fall at some point so it's a question of when and not if.

And anyway, even if we could find a way to survive indefinitely would it be enough? There is so much more to life than survival. Living just to survive just seems pointless in a way.

Everything comes and goes. If the earth dries up and we are still on it, bye bye. If the sun dies and we are still on the earth, well crap. If the Milky Way collides with Andromeda as it seems to be, we would probably be gone unless on one of the tails of the merger. Of course, all these things are potential threats some time in the very distant future. Some foolish humans with their ability to blow up the earth over 200 times may decide they have the answer, or we could exhaust our natural resources etc. In the end, we will fall but something else will rise up. It's just the way of things. If we care though to last out quite a while as a species, we may be able to avoid such calamities as our own self-destruction by idiots in power and come a long way from today.

    eventually

we do all have to face facts that, barring a technological or scientific or even spiritual (possibly) miracle eventually we'll all die out. I mean who knows, we may discover a way to release the mind from the body or something like that but we are almost definitely screwed eventually.

Umm...no comment on that last sentence.

But we will all eventually die.

Like Soush said, we all just have to wish that it isn't in our lifetime.

There is about 4.6 billion years to go before the sun goes out(Scientific theory). I would say if we are still around in 4.6 billion years I am sure we will have found a way to fix that.

We're all going to die someday. Humans are polluting the planet that they live on. There are wars breaking out all over. Humans are overpopulating. We are cutting down trees which produce oxygen that we need to survive. So basicaly we're screwed.

I'd like to quote my 6th Grade Social Studies teacher, plzkthnx.

All of the great civilizations -- the Mesopotamians, the Aztecs, the Egyptians -- they all died out one day. . . When's our turn?

Whether we screwed ourselves or it's some sort of galactic kablooey is a different story. But, based on what's going on here now, we're going to blow each other up.
