So my dad was holding on to 2 rings, a watch, and a necklace (chain that is irreplaceable) with a total price of $450. He lost all of them. Every single one. Only one question. Should I make him pay $450, make him buy me equivalent stuff, or not make him pay me and forget the whole thing.

  2. First of all, why was he holding them, and how did he lose them?

But yeah, I'd say make him pay for it.

I was at a tennis game.

He had to go home and he brought the jewelry with him. When he came back, he said he left them at home, but they weren't there.

  4. Well then it was really his own fault, he should definitely pay you back the money.

I would think you should ask him to pay you back or something like that. But, don't demand it; depending on your age that could possibly work out for the worst.

Actually, it is your own bloody fault :/

If you cannot take care of your own things then what are you going to do when you grow up?

It isn't down to your father to look after your stuff, you should have left the items at home if they are that valuable :/

I would say have a really, really good look around your house before you get too pissed at him. I actually feel bad for your dad.

Either make him pay or buy them back. They were his responsibility to take care of for the time anyway.

If he doesn't have the money for it I guess you'll just have to forget the whole thing.

I only half agree, yes Nova should of left them at home but maybe s/he forgot they had tennis so they put their trust in a parent, but the dad somewhat betrayed that trust by losing them. So I think it's half and half with who's to blame

If that was the case then again it is down to Renegade for being forgetful about having tennis and not thinking.

:/ I really disgaree that his dad should take responsibility, let alone full responsibility.

The most I would expect is that your dad pays half, and that is the very most.

Plus from what you have said previously, your family does not have a great deal of money, by taking $450 from your father, you are actually taking $450 from your entire family :/

So are you saying it's bad to be forgetful? If so then everyone is bad since forgetting is a natural thing for humans

It is very bad to be forgetful when there is something worth $450

Being forgetful is something we all experience, I wont deny that, but in this case :/ yes it is bad.

Forgetting to take a pen to class is one thing, forgetting something that means you are down by nearly half a grand is taking the piss.

The main reason was because I had a tennis game right after school. I had no choice. My dad always watches and I didn't have time to go home and drop off my stuff, so I decided to leave them in his hands. It's been since Monday, so I think they're lost, but I'll keep looking.

I dont think you should ask him for the money, just get it for yourself. I mean it makes it much more better and you feel good that you were able to get it yourself then asking for them from your dad.

    Good idea to keep looking.

Maybe out of some luck you'll come across them.

In which case what the hell are you doing wearing $450 worth of accessories to school?

    O_o

I still think you need to man up and accept at least some of the responsibility here.

i don't think you should make your dad pay for it even though it does seem like expensive stuff. i mean it's just jewlery, you should just let him make it up to you in some other way. besides, it might seem like you're being disrespectful in your dad's perspective if you demanded money from him.

I wear those things for one reason, they look cool. It's a FFVII ring, an expensive watch, a Native American pure silver necklace, and a random ring that has no value to me.

Well then, I'll forget it ever happened.

    Problem resolved.

    Lockable now.
