Didn't the original trailer for the game show her funeral?

 

Oh yeah, that too.

 

I wasn't too sad because I was 99% sure I could bring her back somehow through some side quest or something. I MEAN WHY GIVE ME HER FINAL LIMIT BREAK WHEN SHE'S NOWHERE EVEN NEAR CAPABLE OF USING IT YET RIGHT!? SHE'S DEFINITELY COMING BACK!

Wow, that must have been a major spoiler for everyone during the time of release

I myself didn't find it sad at all. In fact, through the whole scene I was just thinking "wtf just happened? Why were these guys only doing this?" There was really no emotion when I finally played the game. My reaction was essentially:
Cloud tries to save Aerith
Sephiroth comes to kill Aerith
Aerith becomes shish-kabob
I'm wondering how this is sad in the slightest

Zack dies too. So does Dumbledore. And Anne Frank. Oh and that Jesus dude ? Yeah ...
But seriously, if you ever take Hayabusa on his advice and decide to play Silent Hill 2 I suggest you avoid reading anything about it.

 

If you have to wonder how someone BEING KILLED is sad then there is a small possibility you may have some "issues" so to speak.

 

pretty sure you wouldn't know GOOD music even if Kanye West, 2 Chainz, Pusha T, Big Sean, John Legend and Charlie Wilson fuccked yo couch bruh

 

I haven't even heard of these musicians. Apart from Kanye and I've never actually heard anything of his music wise. But to each his own.

And they don't seem like the sort I'd invite over to sit on my couch anyway.

caring about a character when they die is more important than the death itself
a fictional character's death is not automatically sad or uncomfortable in the way a real human dying is
i can't speak to how this was handled in a game I haven't played, but it's the basic premise of this post that I disagree with

Hey, it took me till I was 20 to play it, and that was only because a friend let me borrow his copy.

But it really wasn't sad, at all. That's why it confuses me how everyone always called it one of the saddest scenes in video games. I just don't see it. Something like Code Geass or Gurren Lagann is sad, not Final Fantasy VII

 

It took me a good minute to realize that this dude wasn't ripping off The Cool Kids and was actually in the group.

 

I was actually devastated by the death in Valkyria Chronicles. I actually had to stop playing for the night after it happened
