I was completly fine with this at first, but then they showed MCR.

WTF. MCR don't even write songs like that. They write about CONTINUING TO LIVE WHEN YOU'RE DEPRESSED. This has made me so angry.

Can you say stereotypes?!

 

Can we not have another topic on emoing? There are a couple others you could have said that in. =:)

So you think they're misguided? XD I like the sog by MCR, Black Parade? It's one of my favourite songs but I'm not emo.

Emo is a type of MUISC

Its not like "Emos" are going around cutting themselves in public then kill other people. People have many way of expressing themselves.

this documentary i find offensive and lame.... even though im not emo.

 

I mean, yes, the song is rather dark and talks about death, but read the freaking lyrics, people!

I mean, COME ON PEOPLE.
yeah, its about death, that doesnt mean kids are going to kill themselves because they listen to it.

And what I found funny, was the fact that they showed clips from the song Teenagers.

Um, HELLO?! Teenagers is about how Gerard was bad mouthed before his band was big, and he was just sitting on a subway while teens poured in and started talking sh!t to him.

Its about how so called 'Emo teens' annoy the hell out of him... isn't that the exact opposite? xD

And Sammy, sorry to break it to you, but you aren't emo. I've seen pics of you, and I really don't think you know JUST what emo is.

Actually, MCR does have some emotional lyrics.

If you don't believe me, listen to WTTBP or Mama. Cancer, even. All of those songs have some emotional element in them.

So I wouldn't call it a stereo type at all.

 

Yeah, mama is quite emotional I listened to it so much I sort of bored myself silly with it. It's just the way they write songs.

 

Yeah, Cancer and Mama are pretty emotional, as well as most of their songs.

But what Im saying is, MCR doesn't just write songs about dying and leaving it off there. They write songs about CONTINUING to live on after death and having the strength to go on, because of a little story about death that Gerard believes.

The songs they showed weren't exactly the right examples of MCR...

It's stupid they think they know what they're talking about but they only know half of it. MCR is just out there... I actually hate them and I was considered "Emo" because I cut myself and what not. MCR seems to always be ruining this fad. In all seriousness they take it too far. What happened to 30 Seconds to Mars or Linkin Park?​

 

Emo...is kinda like punk...only more punky...and goth is like punkests >:3

this annoys me so much! like im not emo..but I do show traits of it at times ,but seriously those people just have no idea at all. I just really hate how that document was said.

But since we're still conversing about this...
I now despise the word emo. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. Not emos themselves, just the word and stereotype in general, I hate it!

Ugh. So when I was 8 I decided I wanted to be a goth. So I waited. For years. Finally I got the audacity to go out and buy a shitload of goth things, and I get called an emo.

Understandable, except for one little detail.
I'm not depressing. I'm not sad. In fact, I'm the happiest person I've met, and some people tell me I'm the nicest they've met. Not trying to sound self-absorbed, but yeah.
Every. Single. Day. 10 kids in the hallway, calling me emo.
And it's not just me! I hang out with a LOT of scene kids, and people apparently think pretty neon rainbow colors are emo now.

I'm just so hurt, angry, and pissed off. I can't do anything about these people.
I mean, I've never physically hurt someone until this year. Kids have said that simple word and I've thrown them into lockers, pushed them over, thrown punches. I ask first, of course, but jesus...
It used to be I'd politely lecture them because they'd be all "wtf? she's supposed to get mad!" But dear god, they've found my weakness.
I mean dude. I am soooo afraid of pain I can avoid. Why the hell would I mutilate myself?


And on the topic of these so called 'emo' bands... Dude, not all the songs most of them write are emo. Yes, every band has a sad song. Inspiration from a death, a lost love--a tragedy. But that doesnt make them emo.

Like, for the longest time Panic! At The Disco was labeled as emo. They didn't appreciate this, and neither did the fans. Their lyrics are very angry, and agressive, and nearly ALL of them were written based on novels by the god who is Chuck Palahniuk.
Then they changed their sound completely to a Beatles-esque rhythm. Every single song is happy, or a little bit confusing. It's just... a perfect example of a great band being called a bunch of pansies who can only whine, when really they can make amazing music..

 

Sorry it's not that misguided.I'm not saying MCR is emo..but all there songs are about past life experiences that are about dealth and violence, when there are kids listening to that, it's not pleasant sometimes.
I like MCR, they used to be one of my favorites.

Emo might be a label, for not only attention but drama.
I think people who hurt themselves because of other things happening in their life need some help.
Because it's not healthy or good for you.
You have to realize the kids who are emo and cut themselves don't have very active parentals and that's where the drugs come in.

You guys might think it is misguided because they used MCR or those other bands, but that are right.
Music is what they live for, and it's not healthy.

If all you do is listen to music and play music and sulk around and wear black it's a bit good-for-nothing.

I'm not saying music is unhealthy because I love music, but it all needs balance.Like...Being an alcoholic.It's okay to drink sometimes but, not all the time.
I know a boy that has a good reason to be emo.
His girlfriend has cancer,he dad died,he isn't allowed to eat anything sugar,he isn't allowed to cut his hair and his mom is making him give it to locks-for-love, he is gay, constintley being made fun of and he cries in class,yet he is happy for the most part.

IN conclusion...EMO=attention getters.
