They actually cut themselves. I've seen it. My friend has 41 scars from it. Case Closed.

 

Many people who are emo don't cut themselves. They just do it for the style.

I think they are wanna-bes, emo means emotional, and that means depressed, or moody, not 'cut yourself'

Cutting themselves is how they relieve pain. I prefer the emos that relieve their pain through poetry though.

There are two different things in the emo world:

Emo: People cut themselves.
Emo Style: A dark style of clothes.

Your wannabe emos just wear the style and sometimes lie about cutting. Real emos actually cut themselves.

And...the word emo origionates from the death cry of Ostriches, actually...

I like the emo style so dress quite emo, and get called emo as a result. But I don't care about being called emo, it's just a word. Most emos wouldn't cut, no (probably =/) and there are plenty of people who are not 'emo' who cut themselves. The emo stereotype has got way out of hand in that respect.

 

Why would it be just "emo's" that cut themselves? Other people are just as likely.

 

I agree with kitty. It doesn't matter if you are 'emo' or not. 'Emo' is just a label for a genre of music.

People cut themselves for many reason's, not just to relieve pain. We don't always know why they do it as it is their choice & they seem to have a reason for it, even if you don't think it is a valid one.

I'm not emo but I know what it feels like to be one, I was one at one point but then all my problems got sorted. In that, I did think of cutting myself but never did- the pain would be too much! I not saying emo's take drugs but I strongly thought about that. Never did though- That was a long time ago.

 

My cousin cut herself actually. She has scars on her legs from it. Its just a cry for help.

People who cut themselves to show off and look emo are wanna-be posers.

People who do it to release there stress and feelings (as I used to) are not posers, but it does not necessarily make them emo.

A few things:

Cutting is not something that emos and goths normally do. It's a prejudice. I consider myself as goth AND emo. I don't cut myself, just like any of my friends.
Many people think that emo and goths cut themselves because the most wear dark and sad clothes, which make them look depressed. Emos and goths look depressed, but so far I know only a really few are really depressed. There are more really depressed non-emo/goth people then depressed emo/goths I think.
Also, lots of wannabees think that emos/goths cut themselves, and so they are gonna cut themselves. Or saying that they are cutting, but don't. If there is an emo saying that emos HAVE to cut them selves, because if they don't, there not emo, you can say that the emo is a wannabe...

You can't become a gothic or emo. You are a gothic or emo, or you are not a gothic or emo.



And I want to say this to everyone:
Stop with listening to prejudices... They are actually nearly always fake and not true. They only create this kind of useless and fake discussions.
Never judge a style on it's look or what people are saying about it.

On topic, I've cut myself before, it was because I was alone and I felt nothing, but I wanted to feel something. so I felt the pain.
