Electronic books like the Sony Reader and Anazon Kindle - good or bad?

Personally I like them, I have a Sony Reader and I really like it. I read a lot and have to get rid of books to make space for new ones which I don't like, this means I don't have to worry about space. Also it means I can easily take many books with me when I go on holiday and such. On top of this the screen doesn't hurt my eyes which I had feared when I had first got it. As well as this, the classics that came with it has introduced me to many books that I wouldn't of otherwise read.

However, I know some people are against them and wondered what people's opinions of them were on here.

My friend has an electronic reader, and I've tried it (so don't think I'm biased). I don't really like the idea of electronic readers. I'm not completely against them. If it's what floats your boat, fine. But I like my books papery, with a front and back cover, and with a spine.

    Like 'em both.

Everything is being digitalized, and this is actually something I am completely for. I love being able to have over 1,000 titles in one "little pad". Easy to carry around, and it makes trips to the doctor's office, car rides, and stuff like that bearable. Also, e-books are cheaper.

However, sometimes its nice to be able to hold the "real" book in your hand. Especially if its like, thundestorming outside. And you've got your window open just a bit, and your curtains & shade pulled up so that strangely beautiful half-light can come in. And you're reading something written by Stephen King (I was reading IT like this earlier today).

I've got the new iBooks app from Borders on my iPod touch right now. I like it because I can literally carry a library around with me without feeling like I'm carrying a library, and on the touch I can do that pinch-n-zoom thing if the text is too small.

I'll like it even more if they can figure out how to get the "new book smell" to work in an iPod. That's my favorite thing; cracking open a brand new hardcover just to get that smell. Something magical about it, y'know?
