how come we don't learn what's going on in the world at school? honestly, i have no clue why we are in a war. also, i don't even understand anything about our government. like taxes, etc. maybe i'm dumb or maybe we're supposed to learn this by ourselves, but i think that our highschools aren't teaching us anything, rather they are training us to live in a capitalist world. to learn stuff and get a job, don't be different, don't be unique, just be quiet and work. shouldn't we be learning about the real stuff in this world, too? because one day we are all going to face the real world.

p.s. my last post FOR SURE ;D. see you in a week ya'll.

yeah, my teachers arent really teaching us stuff thats important (except for my spanish and math teacher)
my science teacher is literally obsessed with cells. its literally all we learn about
and i think we should learn about things well really use, but were all just learning to be people w/o dreams, anything to say, and never gonna know about the real world
they expect us to either be who they want us to be or learn on our own.....

Teachers are just doing their job, really it's what is the is being taught is not preparing us for the future. Getting good grades doesn't always mean a good job, you may have the brains but do you have the right personality etc etc. All schools do is improve your litercity and book smarts. But they need to realise there are more ways of learning and different types of intelligence.

Like the school/college I go to, they are doing the normal subjects, but also more real life subjects towards certain job areas etc. But the main focus is going onto further education and university, but that is not for everyone, and they need to do more into going into the world of work.

Schools don't teach you politics, because schools aren't supposed to choose sides. By teaching you 1 point of you and not ALL of them, then they'd be sued by others who opposed their views.

Also, teachers are just trying to do their jobs. Their jobs are to get you ready for careers, as well as let you develop in a social setting. To be honest, you ARE supposed to learn about stuff like that on your own. Some lessons cannot be taught by anyone but yourself, and the quicker kids realize that the faster they'll grow to be succesful.

You shouldn't blame others for your own shortcomings, like blaming a school for not teaching you politics. If you want to learn about them then look it up. You're able to leave and go home everyday from school to persue your own interests. If schools didn't care about your personailty, or who you truly are, then they'd keep a leesh on you 24/7 and not allow you to seek out your own goals.

    ...what was I talking about?

    ...I'm a guy...XD...>.>

But it's true, anyone who says that schools are teaching us wrong should stop complaining about it and start filling int he gaps. If you wan tto learna bout something that school isn't teaching you, teach yourself...^^

I think we should be able to quit school after 6th grade. The rest is just teaching you stuff if you were serious about the subject. If you were, you should just keep going to school.

I can't think of a job where you would have to find out how many times a wheel, with a 5cm circumference, would spin down a 3 meter hill.

Your just looking at maths, and a 6th Grade education will get you no where in life, my skills now compared to then are far better, you may not realise it but it does help, helps you think more logically etc etc.

They do have things in schools that teach you these things. It's a class called "U.S. Government", or at least that's what they call it here.

And if you don't know, then study it up. And you do have plenty of opportunity. The whole idea is to find what you want to do, and exceed in it. :3

To extend Darky's thoughts, school is just a life before a life. They are teaching you lots of things, and at least TRYING to prepare you for the outside world. However, they're also trying to teach you a number of different subjects, a melting pot if you will, so you can figure out what you like the most and go after it.

Evilman, it takes more then booksmarts to excel in life. You do in fact need outside knowledge, which is indeed something that schools are not teaching. She has a point, and so do you, but it's not like she's saying that she'll drop out of school

Uniquness, especially in a school setting can shape a future more then anything else. Even school drop outs have gone on to lead normal and succesful lives. I'm not saying it's the best option, but I'm saying uniqness is a great qaulity to strive for.

First off, anyone who says you won't need anything you learn in school is an idiot. Your not going to use more than half of the things you learn anywhere, the point of school is to know your capable of learning. As Cin said, political matters are thins you learn yourself, much like what you want to do with your life. You can't be taught these things, you have to listen to others, and decide for yourself.

shes right, a bum on the street could become richer than bill gates if he tried hard enough. all he has to do to improve his life style is win the lottory or start as a janator and work his way up

haha i love how some people think that cin's a girl.

anyways, thanks cin for clarifying that i'm not dumb enough to drop out of school. also, i understand that we should go learn it somewhere else and I have tried. Unfortunately, when I pick up the newspaper or look through Times, I don't have a clue who and what these articles are about. I've asked my parents but they don't really try to explain it. I don't know what I can turn to that would help me.
