Where i'm from, 18 years old can drink until they blow... And there's never been any HUGE problems with that, so yeah, I don't see any problems if they lower the drinking age to 18.

I don't think this is right. I'm not 100% on this, but at age 21 it's safe to start consuming alcohol. Any age under that can be even more dangerous, even if it's just a year or two.

... Plus I don't really think most 18 year olds are responsible enough to start drinking.

It is legal here for 18 year olds to drink and I suppose no one really notices the difference. Everyone is as bad at 21 so responsibility doesn't seem to increase with age. There will always be groups and individuals that take things to the extreme. Most are ok though.

Yeah, it doesn't matter if it's 21 or 18, there will always be people that will lose control.

i am completely against the consumption of alchohol (along with drugs, smoking, and gambling), so i am completely against this. all i wanna know is, what is the attraction to alchohol? my parents let me try it at new year's, and i almost puked on the spot. it smells horrible, tastes horrible, and makes you feel horrible. if all those adults wanna "take a break", or "get rid of their troubles", how about doing something that won't destroy your liver and mind?

Completely true, but people are free to do what they want with their bodies...

    Yeah...
But, anyway, this is starting to get a little out of the theme so we better just stop.

Most of them give in at a young age and then when they realize how horrible it is for you they can't stop.
    *actually paid attention in Health*

But we're a little off topic. xD

If you're 18 and you really want to drink, I don't think the law will stop you. The drinking age just stops people underage form buying the alcohol, but when I was under 21 I'd just get someone older to buy it from me. At college, even now, the 21 age limit doesn't stop anyone from drinking. If they changed it then it would increase the amount of alcohol sold, but not necessarily the amount of drinkers. So I say yeah, do it.

I have been drinking alcohol for about 6 months now (I am 16). The legal age to drink alcohol in a private residence (an owned house basically) under the supervision of a major (i.e. adult) is 5 in the UK. The 18 age limit is for the purchasing of alcohol. It is also legal to drink wine with a meal in a restaurant with an adult from the age of 16. I see nothing wrong with alcohol in moderation. I am pretty sure I drink too much. This would be because there is a house party nearly every weekend now. I get drunk at most of them. Why? It's fun, I'm living my life. I am not going to be told what to do by a nanny state. I know the damage it can do, both physically and mentally (and trust me I've had enough of the mental/emotional damage to know what I'm talking about) but it's part of living.

Sorry, I'm against this one. So many teenagers have issues just trying to drive at the speed limit here. There are numerous deaths every year because some teenager gets overconfident about driving, and decides to either use their cell phone or go at speeds faster than what's posted, and the next moment they're 6 feet under. They're just not responsible enough at that age. Add alcohol to that, and you're spelling disaster. We'll have wasted kids flying down our highways at speeds upwards of 90 mph.

Not to mention that at 18 some teenagers are still growing. Drinking at that age could pose physical problems as well because the body is still so young. And because the body is still developing into an adult, any after effects of drinking could be with them for the rest of their lives.

I say keep the age at 21. By then they've matured enough and know the effects of alcohol and might have enough common sense to stay off the road after a beer or two.

    Might.

It makes sense, I mean I could go get shot in a war at 18 but I can't buy a beer... Plus in many other places it is 18 and they have it better than we do.

    lmao. Too true.

I can't wait til I'm 18 so I can buy alcohol without worrying about being ID'd.

Most of the people who are against lowering the drinking age, I bet haven't even been tipsy... don't knock something unless you've tried it. ;P

    Lol, sucks for you :P

Agreed. For some reason people think once you get drunk your instantly a failure, a raper, an abuser, or a drunk driver.... Seriously wtf....

I fully agree with this statement. At the age of ten I vowed never to drink alcohol my entire life. Then I did, and it was nice. Some of it is horrible (most beers x.x) but cider is nice. I also found the fact that I could let go was good, I stopped worrying while I was drunk, although that had some rather major consequences x.x

Really most people are mature enough at 18, the few who aren't shouldn't ruin it for the rest.

The drinking age is at 21 for a reason. Its because that is the age in which your brain is fully developed and you are more likely to 'make the right choices.'

It's not a matter of drinking.

It's what you do when you excess. lol >_>

As long as they aren't taking up my road on the street then I'm happy. <)

    But yeah...uh...um...I agree! Should be 21 not 18. <_< >_> O_O;

    Um..

Is that scientifically proven or something? =/
