I personally DO download music, but not in the crazed I'm-never-going-to-pay-for-anything way. I hate the people that download a band's entire CD and claim to be one of their biggest fans. I view downloading music just to be a way of previewing things to see if you would be interested in buying it.

As for downloading music to your iPod/MP3 Player, I really don't see anything too wrong with it. This goes for just downloading for listening on your computer and things -- If you're not reproducing it or selling it or in any way making a profit off of it, what's the problem?

I was watching a music talk show type thing and there was a band who had a new CD coming out soon. They mentioned that their new album had leaked, and that is they played one of the new songs that hadn't been officially released at one of their shows people would know all the words and cues and all that. I admire them for what they said -- It didn't really matter to them how their fans got the music as long as they were dedicated to them.

What are your views on this?

Well it kinda depends like if it's just a few songs then i GEUSS IT'S OKAY. bUT THEN IT'S LIKE EVERYONE DOES IT AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW THE COMPANY JUST LOST A FEW HOUNDRED DOLLARS OR SUMTHIN. But I thinnk you should only do it if you can't get it or it's extremily orverpriced.

I basicly agree with everything that you just said, I do download music yes to see if it is good. And if it is good I go out and actually buy CDs henceforth. And as for it being wrong to download music, true that as long as you aren't making profit off someone else than its not that big of a deal in my eyes.

As long as a band is in it for the love of the music I am sure that they don't mind as much, its when a band is in it purely for money that they care, and if that is why they are in the music industry then they are not a band. They are just a shallow generic MTV sellout group that sings about the same things every single song. And to me that doesn't qualify as music.

i download music to see if i like it, then i buy the cd. as long as youre not using downloads to make money it shouldnt be a problem. the record companies view it as stealing because they lose money if you dont buy the cd.

But why buy the CD if you only like one or two songs on it? That's how I see things. But yeah, as long as you aren't selling them for a profit there is no harm in it.

I usually just download a song to see if it's worth buying from iTunes. I usually delete after a few days, and if I think it's good, then I'll buy it.

Most of the music around here is obscure music I can't find around here. Lacking a music store in our mall...{no music store and we still have an Orange Julius.} and not wanting to drive 4 miles to WalMart to look through their lacking selection. Downloading is my main option.

I do not sell the music. All of it is either on my computer, in my IPod, or both. I'd like to support the artists I listen to but most of them are located either in Germany or Russia. So the distance barrier is a big one.

So yeah, if you're just using it for your own use. I don't see a problem with it.

Most of the songs I listen to aren't on CD or if they are, well there's no chance of getting them, so downloading them is basicly the only way to listen to them. I mean, where am I going to get german, french, spanish, and a few other langages on CD? I don't burn the songs then sell them or anything so I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

Exactly. If my plan works perfectly i'm only going to get the songs I can't get. Which all happen to be in different languages lol. Sometimes when I listen to sanctuary(Passion) the japaneses verson I will be songing to it in english and japanese(Chinese?). Very fun.

Yep, downloaded music in the illegal way, mainly because, I can not find a CD in any store I go to. And most bands I do like aren't even stocked in this country, so either I import it, (Yeah, even the bands would say thats going to far.) or I download it, and you'd probably agree with the second one.

Most of the time I only like one or at the most two songs from a band, so I'll just download those, every now and then I find a whole album I like, in that case I buy the album...

for those who have 40,000 songs, all illegally downloaded, thats wrong, but less than a 100? I doubt the person who made the song will miss that extra dollar or two...

selling the music you downloaded? absolutely wrong, besides, who buys that stuff now? the person might as well just download it themselves XD

As others have mentioned, it seems in stores we are isolated from artists from other countries and some awesome underground music that just cannot be found. It's very hard to locate it especially since no one plays it anywhere but a few radio stations on the internet that actually get the music out.

I used to tape music from the radio and then someone told my parents that was illegal even though I was just taping it to listen to and enjoy, not sell etc. To me, downloading songs is like that and if I love the song I will buy it on CD but it really really sucks when the songs cannot be found at all in stores. I like mainstream things but also stuff from all around the world and I'd never even have heard of other groups if I didn't download songs to hear. Then if I love it, sometimes I can get the CDs but even then, it doesn't work.

The people mostly griping in the end is the RIAA because they screw over the artists so bad and are the ones making the biggest profits by people buying a CD with 1 good song. There are several artists that put out singles to download on myspace pages and other locations like their personal websites. They know a lot of people want the rights to hear what they have before they buy. Artists nowadays make most of their money in actual concerts. Yes, now concerts have grown to be more expensive because of online trading of music, and I don't mind that and still will go to those. However, the RIAA doesn't get as much money on concerts so they still gripe.

i personally download stuff i can't buy at a store. like anime opening songs etc. and foreign songs. but i agree with one of your statements 100%. how can you claim to be their biggest fans if you dont' buy their music? it's a crime, but no one is getting in trouble for it anymore becuz there's too many ppl doing it. they can't sue EVERYONE.

I really don't see a problem with it. Sure, it's 'illegal', but really, how hard does society try to catch us? lol it's almost like they WANT to distract us with free music.

But anyway, I'm fine with it. I usually download the CD and listen to it for a while, then if I feel like it's a worthy buy, I get it.
