depends on how powerful the anime is. not whether it's a good anime or not but if it can tie things to reality and get you thinking then sure.

Um...InuYasha helped me fit in at my highschool?
Dunno if that counts. But I meet a lot of my friends through talking about anime and learning about new series.
My summercamp roommate and I stayed up to 1 AM talking about Ruroni Kenshin once. >_>

None really "changed my life", but a couple did have an impact on it. InuYasha made me a fan of anime (even though I don't really like it anymore). Fullmetal Alchemist made me interested in ancient and modern alchemy.

I think it depends on what anime it is and what themes and morals it has to offer, but here are some animes that are indeed could shape up your life.

Such as Bleach, who shows perseverance and a sense of good instinct.
Or Eureka Seven, who teaches values such as family, puberty and relationships.
Yugioh...well, I'm not really, sure, but I do recall themes such as good vs. evil.
Kingdom Hearts as well also can help shape your life. It teaches values such as to follow your heart and perseverance as well.
Even Death Note has themes and morals. Death Note teaches "what is righteous judgment."

These are only some examples, because there are tons more animes that are able to change people's lives in the process.

Personally, I think Eureka Seven was the one who inspired and change my life the most, seeing that their themes are the usual issues of daily people such as I.

The anime that changed me was Death note. I got hooked on that son of a ***** like it was apples to Ryuk. It did show me morals of how killing people can get you into serious trouble, and that you can learn from Light's mistakes.

    !!!!!SORRY FOR SPOILERS!!!!!
Finaly someone who understands me. Eureka 7 teaches you if you realy love someone nothing will get in your way to protect them. Like how Renton and Holland always protected Eureka (mostly Renton) and to love them no matter what happens. Like how Eureka is a Coralion and not human and Renton loves her unconditionally. Like when her arm changed alot and she grew wings. I hope one day to have a love like Renton and Eureka have and that is thanks to Eureka 7.(Im gonna stop myself here cause ill start rumbling and i could go for hours talkin bout Eureka 7.)

    LATER:)

^ So basically, what he's trying to say is, those specific scenes from that anime shows that relationships are various and that it moves in different ways. He also states that loving is not just judging the appearance, but also the personality and attitude that person has. Take for instance what he said.
OOC: btw, it's Coralian and Renton, xD
Now these two couples in this anime show unconditional love, which is no matter what they do, they'll always love each other no matter what, lovers until the end, etc.
Now this scene that quoted is a scene where Eureka, a girl in which the protagonist, Renton, is in love with, but she is no ordinary girl (let's just take her as alien-like). Eureka suddenly encounters herself with a transformation of her body, turning light green and getting wings (butterfly!). Well this scene isn't actually the whole transformation, it's only partial of the transformation. Although to Eureka, who is concerned for Renton's opinion about this irreversible transformation, Renton seems to love her, no matter what the reason.

So this is also saying that this is one the morals Eureka Seven has to offer and that it can heavily applied to your lives.

    Sad, but true...

I watched Love Hina for the first time. The entire series all in one sitting. Yes, the ENTIRE series.

After it ended, I was extremely depressed for weeks. I kept thinking that a 20 year-old loser was actually able to get a hot girl, get into the college of his choice after failing three times and finds out that the girl that has been kicking his perverted butt for years is the so-called "promise girl" that he's been looking for since day one?

That lucky b*****d! Why couldn't my life be as charmed as his was? And so I started going to the gym more afterwards so I could start attracting more females.

Unfortunately, I lost my motivation after eight months. The anime's influence wore off on me and I was back to being a hopeless computer geek with almost no social skills. :nono:

Hmmm...I believe you took the series too seriously, but of course it all depends on what's your take on the anime.

Love Hina really did have a very surprising twist, that Keitaro, the protagonist, only had his motivation on Tokyo University due to a promise to a girl he never actually promised. But in the end, he gets the girl he had his hopes and dreams with, which really did turn out great.

As for you not being able to follow the anime's theme, I believe you're using it on a wrong perspective. I respect your opinion and all, but Love Hina teaches perseverance and motivation and the ability to learn through trial-and-error.

These themes are what actually Keitaro attained, who was 1) Motivated to get into the best university in Japan, 2) Never gave up and tried tons of times and 3) He learned through his mistakes and succeeded in the end.

True. Those may be the moral themes of the anime. But I was looking at it from a social point of view. This is a guy who was down on his luck. He was a complete loser to the outside world. No one really believed in him. And worst of all, he was picked on by most of the girls he met. He ended up looking like a total pervert and a spaz, but despite those qualities, he eventually was accepted and respected as time went by and people started to interact with him.

That's what I admire most about him. Despite Keitaro being a social outcast (I'm talking about both anime AND manga), he still formed good relationships just by being himself and not who people expected him to be.
