Yes, I know how to run it. =P

However, it requires 15% free space, and I've only got 8%, it doesn't defragment efficiently, and even after removing games I haven't played in a while, it only went up from 5% to 8%.

I don't have any other unnecessary files that I can delete.

    Help?

EDIT: It should be noted that my PC isn't acting up or anything, but it keeps saying that I should defragment the volume.

Upload the stuff you don't want/need somewhere online.

I delete all walkthrough parts once they're uploaded.

    Everything else, however, is necessary.

My mom and I have Shared Networking enabled, which is private just between us.
Would moving files there temporarily to run a defrag reduce the disk size or would they still be counted as being on my PC?

How old is your PC? My laptop is 5 years old and only has 12% of space left. And that's with me defragging the drive when I can, and putting all my stuff on an external drive.

Done correctly that would work. You just need to make sure you are saving it to her computer, and that she knows not to delete it.

It should be noted though that computers start having issues when you get low on memory, so it may be time to look into getting a larger hard drive.

How much total memory does your computer have? I rarely ever use any space on mine so this doesn't become a problem but if you have anything like a flash drive or memory stick it would help to relieve some of the data temporarily. This is another reason why you should always run DD every so often, it cleans up space. Also have you tried Disk Cleanup? That might also relieve some of the data.

That's another thought...can your RAM be upgraded? I was also going to suggest you invest in an external drive (you can get a 250 GB one for not a huge chunk of change) to relieve some of those files from your PC's shoulders, but giving it some more RAM could also be a possibility, if your model can be expanded that is.

What are you trying to do, exactly? Is it a speed issue or are you just low on hard drive space?

I analyze the volume, and it says that I should defrag it.
Doesn't that mean it's necessary (as in, I have to)?

Aside from files not saving due to fragmentation (very rare) it is really only a speed issue. If you are okay with the speed you have you don't need to do it.

The only speed issues I have are with the Internet, but that's due to the crappy modem.
    It's been gradually getting slower.

Anyway, this can be locked now, I guess, so, Misty, do your thing! :)
