If FFXIII(including Versus and Agito) is the last Final Fantasy...I'll be happy. Just because it'd be the last Final Fantasy doesn't mean that there wouldn't be other games like it made by Square Enix. Personally, I want to see another revival the Mana series. Personally I think it means they plan to put new things into the series along with all new games (probably without sequels), they won't drop one of their top game series just after it's anniversary unless they've encountered problems. Besides, the article seems to of mistaken some of it's points. The new elements in FFXIII are proof that they're seeing how the west does things and how they should alter their game plans to fit global tastes, especially since they now have Eidos gunning for them it would make sense about the strong female lead, Lightning = Lara Croft.
Even if they did end FF after 14 they would start something newer and possibly on a similar level to FF just different. Though, dropping FF wouldn't be a good thing, they could just lessen the amount of teams who make them by having them to make other games not from a past series. I think that they would just lessen the amount of teams who work on a single series, bring in some new games to keep the fans of the big long series' happy and entertain the newer gamers who might not like starting in the middle of something or mistake FF to be a continual single story.

"It was clear from speaking to them that Final Fantasy XIII's developers expected to make more Final Fantasy games. "

Just as a frame of reference, since some people seem to only be reading the first paragraph of the article.

I'm pretty sure this means the same thing for Final Fantasy XV as it did for Final Fantasy VII: new angle, new direction, same series. Square Enix would not dare cut off its premiere cash-cow unless they went out with the biggest bang the gaming industry will ever see.

Aye, some folk seem to have missed that point. xD

They're only going to change the series to keep it fresh for fans.

Kinda going back to what I said seeing how anyone who actually read it misread it. What I intended to say was that they shouldn't discontinue FF nor would they since it's raking in the cash for them as one of their top sellers but instead lessen the amount of FF's they make at a time and let one or two teams handle it instead of four or five. It would be nice for them to go back to older series like Mana but maybe not with remakes but new additions that aren't dependant on the player having the first game(s).
Basically, lessen the load on FF and let more teams do more than one series/solo game so they can get to a wider audience. Though, this is just me picking up on the possibilities. In no way shape or form does it seem that FF will end any time soon, whoever made that article must be a hopeful "Valve will conquer the Earth" fan or something /joke xD

As people were saying, it doesn't sound like they're planning on stopping the series, just changing it. A lot. Personally, I think this is a good idea. Standard RPG games aren't really that appealing nowadays, especially with games with real time action like Kingdom Hearts. I'd like to see the Final Fantasy battle system completely revamped, whether to make it more like Kingdom Hearts, or a completely new concept, I don't care. It sounds like they're already doing this, however, with Versus XIII, which is supposed to have a Kingdom Hearts style battle system.

I don't want them to stop making the games, just change them.

When I heard that "The Last Story" was coming out for the Wii, I had a feeling that Final Fantasy was ending soon. I think Last Story will be the new start.

But it's by the guy who made the Final Fantasy series right? Hironobu Sakaguchi.
I didn't say it was the end of Square, just Final Fantasy in a 'spiritual successor' sort of way.

    I like your attitude.

I'm looking forward to whatever new direction they're going, too. I've skipped a few of the later games because I just wasn't feeling the magic; maybe a revamp can bring it back. It sure didn't hurt Armored Core the three-or-four times they did it.
