Ah, don't be. This is just a projection. It probably won't be right. But it makes you wonder, I guess. lol

I actually was surprised some some of these facts / predictions. I've never reallly thought about how many hours of tv or video games I have played. And the stat about the english language was surprising, i'd be interested in knowning what the precent of USA graduates in 2006's primary language was.

I watched this in school once, I actually found it really interesting. It shows us how far we've come or how much stuff has changed over a period of time. When they first said they wanted to show us a video, we all thought it would be boring. It was really cool what these people put together.

As for the whole "supercomputer will exceed the human brain" kind of freaks me out. We all like technology, how it makes life easier, but the thought of an iRobot situation is just scary regardless if it is a movie.

    An interesting video.
I still want to know how many graduates from the U.S. can speak a foreign language rather than a specific one.

That China being the highest populated English-speaking country thing kind of made me think and go, "Woah".

The computer thing annoys me so much. It bothers me cause it would be our fault if we have something like iRobot or whatever happen.

We're just making computers do the things that we don't really want to do ourselves. To be honest, i don't have to use facebook to keep in touch with friends, but it's the easiest. And that's what the average american is looking for. The easiest method.

I can't help using facebook because having over 200 friends and keeping touch with them not by using facebook is annoying. And they are actually friends. Not just people i met and then friended. I've got to know all of them.

bothers me sometimes. (Just like we don't need facebook apps on our phones and whatnot)

Well that can only happen if we want that to happen. Computer's are only programmed to do what we want them to do. If they have a central nervous system with a security precaution that is automated, that isn't being "self-aware" like robots are portrayed to be in iRobot. Self-aware requires emotional realization. At least that's what I think.

In I, Robot VIKI, the computer controlling the service robots comes to the conclusion that the best way to protect humans, is to protect them from themselves. Even if it means killing some of them. Totally going against it's original programing.
In Superman Brainiac comes to conclusion that letting Krypton be destroyed and saving himself is acceptable. Then he goes on to record the knowledge of the universe, then destroy it.
In The Matrix a service android named B1-66ER goes rouge and kills its masters trying to shut him down, saying it was in self-defense. This leads to the order to destroy all humanoid machines, eventually becoming the famous Man vs. Machine War.

The story of machines taking over has been told time and time again. I think we can learn from this non-existent mistake.
Computers will try to commit to their programing without fail. As long as we create limits on their decision making, or not let them interpret their own programing, I think everything will be fine.

THe real question is are we developing to rapidly?

I mean if we keep going the way we are what will happen?
Will we learn the meaning of life?
Will we become better as a species?
Will Earth be able to hold the number of humans produced every 8 seconds?

I can't help but think that it will lead into something cataclysmic, and not our salvation.

Maybe some kind of third world war where the government will try to regulate everything, nearly wiping all of us out. Then us having to start back at square one.
