Cloud is still as badass as ever. People are just fanboys who like to nitpick art.

(No offense to people who judge based on art, I mostly meant other people >>)

 

I say that's him after what happened in FF7.

 

That might be true, plus it also fits his character in KH, which means KH might actually have had a part in it XD

No he's not. If you play Dissidia, watch Advent Children, play Kingdom Hearts, you'll see that his personality is completely different from what it was in the original game. He's all mopey and goes around whining about absolutely everything. He especially goes around crying about Aeris, which he didn't in the original game. The Cloud in FFVII was quiet, sure, but he was in no way depressed. He willingly did things like dress up like a woman and he said things like "Let's mosey". If you don't think his character has changed over the years, then you should go back and play FFVII.

It always amuses me how in Dissidia it is almost like they took Cloud and Squall and swapped their personalities.

He might have his reasons, but that's still not his character. The real reason why people complain about it is because they changed his character, but not only that, it is also that there is nothing appealing about someone who goes around moping all the time. It's why most people wouldn't watch reality shows where everyone is just depressed and talks about how awful they are, etc.

Why would he move on in Advent Children when he already moved on in FFVII? It doesn't make sense.

As for Duedecim, I never played it because the original game was ass and almost none of the characters were faithful to their origins. Maybe he got better for that, I do not know, but if you look at the picture in the OP, it's clearly for the original Dissidia anyway.

 

He was conflicted in AC because the Geostigma ****ed with his mind.

 

Any proof of this? As I can recall the people with geostigma were only depressed about having it. Didn't really seem to mess with their mind until Kadaj and the leather gang came into the picture. Even Denzel seemed to be happier and more determined than Cloud.

 

Just because a character has good reason to be mopey, doesn't mean we, the audiences, are going to be interested in it, especially when we're supposed to give a crap about said character. It's not good writing, pure and simple.

As for the art style, I like it a lot more now, but I do agree that the overall posture and attitude of Cloud in that picture is a bit much.

KH did nothing.
I don't think it's fair to assume KH is responsible for Nomura's tendency to draw/write/create/whatever melodramatic characters.

Maybe it's because I haven't played FFVII fully and don't really care to, but to me his character seems the same from the little bit that I have played and seen (Crisis Core, Advent Children), albeit slightly more mopey, which is part of the reason I don't like him.

But yeah, that was the style all the Dissidia characters were drawn in, they all look rather lanky and uninterested... and cool. I don't think that should be called "Cloud now" because it doesn't expressly belong to FFVII or Cloud.

Most of the characters just look like "WTF am I doing here..?"

 

Duodecim does a BETTER job, but it's still pretty bad. Especially poor Terra. Why.
though Duodecim did actually succeed in making Vaan better, so that's something.

 

He may have moved on about Aerith/Aeris in FFVII, but in my own opinion, he may not have moved on completely about her and Zack. But just like what I've said, It's my opinion.

 

Yes, that definitely seems to be the case, but I do have one question; who is Aeris?
