Any good turn based strategy(Fire Emblemesque) games on Steam?

Sounds like you're looking for a SRPG
In which case, no. Those games are usually Eastern made and usually for handhelds.

Ah, well. SRPGs are a dying breed these days.

One of my favourite genres, games like X-com and Silent Storm (not sure if they class as SRPG, but they are similar) are some of the best.

Well, I believe there is a new X-Com game coming out not too long into the future. Maybe just wait for that? I am not talking about the bad FPS game, the one that is actually like the original games.

I wouldn't say that. Almost my entire PSP library is SRPGs. The genre has just always been a little underground.

I don't like RTS, that's my gripe, too many things happening at once and the pacing is all over the shop, with SRPG, I can take my time and strategize each move accordingly.

I never heard about games anymore at all, come to think of it.

I really need to get back into gaming.

    Indeed. Like chess.

We should do a Fire Emblem collaboration run or a competition or something sometime.

I'm so **** with FE, on the emulated GBA games (cant get them here) I would sit in the arenas and grind my characters like a mad man til they were tough enough to handle all challenges, and if anyone died I always reloaded, same goes for the GC and Wii games featuring Ike.

Similar. In fact, if I got a level up that was sub-par, I restarted. I had to get every chest and visit every town. Kill every enemy. Get all supports.

The supports thing I have never completed.

Sod the supports, too much hassle for myself, I settled for all characters and all characters surviving the endgame and I was happy.

It sounds like we would would to do a speed run. That is where we try to complete the game in the fewest turns (in a competitive run).

Or avoid killing each other over moves (in a collaborative run).

    Which game is your favorite?

My absolute favourite is the Wii game, Radiant Dawn, which was all I played on my Wii before I sold it due to lack of use and the whole wake up call of "crap I actually bought a Wii", for the GBA its the one where you start with Lyn(Lynne?) I forget which one that is, Sacred Stones maybe? Been several years and two pc's since I emulated it last.

Ooh, you know what would be fun? We could co-manage a stream where we take turns playing SRPGs while the others commentate. You guys could do the obvious ones that everybody likes, and I'd do the weird ones like Yggdra Union.

...And maybe we could split the FF Tactics series. FFTA is my baby.

I have Radiant Dawn but I haven't played it because I haven't beaten Path of Radiance yet. I need to give on my perfect level-ups and just beat it. It's my first time, dammit. Why must I be so perfectionist?

That would be Fire Emblem: The Blazing Sword, or just Fire Emblem in English since it was the first one officially translated.

X-com would be fantastic for a group stream, you could easily name soldiers after KHV members and watch as they die.

Radiant Dawn is sooooo long, my first run clocked more than 65 hours, but I never got bored of it once, mean though and you can only get some characters on second runs, so it's impossible to get EVERYONE in one go.

I could handle that. I would have to calm my perfectionism for any strategy game.

It would probably be good for me.

You are asking me to mod an FE game now if we do that. It would be my first time, but it shouldn't be too hard.

Or maybe not, I love my original characters.

My heart breaks for those who did not play it twice.

Devil Survivor 2 so far has been doing a great job at being my favorite SRPG in a damn good while. The anti-grinding system really helps the game become a true test of strategy.

    What about the first game?

    What system?
