I got it on release date and its very fun. I can't tell you the last time I played a sandbox zombie game. A good mix of L4D and Deadrising. It does get kinda lonesome if you don't play co-op. Opinions?

I've seen it being played on youtube and it looks like a fun game. I wonder though is it melee weapons only?

Not really. In the beginning, you start off with melee weapons. They can be thrown so yes and no. Later on, guns will be provided.

    Love your avatar btw :3

I'm considering getting this, sounds like it's pretty additive from the reviews I read. Has anyone tried the online for the 360? That's what I'm really curious about.

Thank you. I saw that each person was a specialist in certain weapons like sharp and blunt but I don't recall guns being one of those. Can you specify what kinds of guns there are such as shotguns or what?

Yes each character has a specialization in one weapon type. They can use all, but one suits the others better. By guns, I'm not sure. I haven't got into the game far enough. In the trailer, I did confirm a shotgun and an assault rifle.

From what I remember seeing, Assault rifles and handguns at least. But the game pushes you more to melee weapons, thrown or close comabt.
And I believe the australian woman is the guns expert, the tattooed guy is the thrown expert, the Chinese woman is blade expert whilst the rapper guy is blunt specialist.

    Extract from Xbox360Achievements.org:

'While things might quickly get a touch stale if you go it alone, the game also has a neat online matchmaking system. At any point you can invite a host of other people into your match or, if you find yourself at the same point as another random soul online, the game will prompt you to hop into their game should you so wish. It really is that easy and makes finding a co-op buddy as easy as possible. On the down side though, people tend to do what they want to do, and even though you can join other people's games don’t be shocked if they quickly drop out or even ignore you to do their own thing. It is certainly advisable to play with friends and use a microphone to co-ordinate the action.'

So by the sounds of it, better with friends but alright with strangers, and the Live connection seems alright.

Now a question of what platform to get it on... PC, PS3 or Xbox?

    Thanks for that.

And according to IGN, the graphics are actually better on the 360. But I would get it for the 360 anyways since I don't have a ps3.

    Ah, no problem mate.

Hmm, sometimes consoles do better then the PC on games, probably will get it for 360 as well. Maybe I can convince some of my friends to get it. Or maybe I can get the KHV community to get on board. we will see.

I read up on it in GameInsider. It did look interesting, some zombie games are really dull and not unique, but i'd say this one is different.

I don't remember exactly what the article said, but it did look good, and lots of variations can be implemented. I would get this game if i had a PS3 or a XBox360... I prolly should.

I might buy this game today, and if you are interested, I'd play coop with you when I have the chance.
I'll let you guys know what I think of it when I get it.

I'll probably get it when it goes on sale for 40 dollars. Looks like something I'd have fun with, but not something to drop 60 bucks on.

Actually, I would play with you if I decide to get this game. Here's why I'm on the fence about it...

First off, Resistance 3 came out yesterday. I really love that series. Secondly, I've heard some valid complaints about Dead Island in an early review.

    1. Dead Islands suffers from what I like to call, "Bolted Down Syndrome". Meaning even the smallest enviromental objects like chairs are IMMOVABLE and cannot be broken. Meaning even zombies have to walk around them which makes them seem a whole lot less frightening.

    2. All the characters are pretty much bland and will say almost the exact same things in the game. At least the portion this certain review looked over had this problem.

    3. I myself and worried about the game becoming unrealistic with the weapons because of the upgrade system. I don't want this game to become pathetically easy within three hours or so into the game. I want it to feel like you're nearly screwed over thoughout almost the entirity of the game.

Get Resistance 3 instead. The multiplayer is the most fun I've ever had with an online game.

It's not an easy game. Weapons deteriorate, enemies get stronger, there are HUMAN thugs that shoot you, and other environmental hazards. If any of the top 3 irritates you, then by all means don't get it.

From what I've seen the Zombies can hit you even when your hitting them plus they take quite a bit of hurt to actually die. And if they do get tougher than you better hope you upgrade your weapons.

Hm...based off of everything here, I think I'll be getting Resistance 3 first. If I have the money I'll pick this up too. I really have been wanting to play a good zombie game but so far I'm not particularly interested in any out there. Glad to know that at least the difficulty of the game isn't laughable. I haven't heard that many good reviews on this game and they all raise valid points...but I'm willing to give this game a chance when I can.

I’ve played the game for some hours now (4-5) and I must say that I quite enjoy it. I’ve only played alone for now, but I love it.
The game does get harder as you level up, because the zombies level up with you. You can choose the difficulty by deciding what weapon you want to use. You can use a low level weapon or a higher level weapon.
I’m a bit disappointed in the lack of freedom when it comes to customizing your weapon. I wish you could use the duct tape to merge a sword and a paddle for example (loose example but whatever)
As far as the story goes, it hasn’t gotten that deep yet, but I enjoy the game because of this. It’s very sandboxy.
The combat so far is quite good. It’s not right that they can attack you when you attack them, however, it might seem like that sometimes if you hit each other simultaneously. Also, there are a couple of different types of zombies. You have the “hidden ones” (The ones that seem dead but isn’t, then suddenly jump you), “runners” (fast fuckers), “tanks” (a lot of hp, knockdown & deals a fair amount of damage.) and just normal zombies.
    Imo, well worth $60
