Ok so I was sitting in my writing class, drawing(XD) but anyway the teacher gave us a weird(to say the least) assignment. To write a story but there were conditions. 1: it must be fictional 2: at least two chapters long; and 3:...you had to write from the first person in opposite gender XP so I came up with this and wanna know what you guys think. If you like it then maybe I will keep going. So without further ado*trumpet sounds* Here is Dawn's Keeper

    Chapter 1
    A New Arrival

"Class," the teacher called," We have a new student."

The teacher motioned me to come in and I exhaled my breath. I put on the least caring face that I could muster and stepped into the room. Audible gasps went up around the room. I stared them down, daring them to say something. Of course, I knew what they were staring at. My hair, and my eyes for that matter, were not what you would call, normal. I wore a different uniform too, a boys uniform. That being because I flat out would not wear those ridiculously short skirts and tight shirts that were the girls uniform. Instead I wore the loose navy blue slacks, white polo short sleeved shirt, and black tie that made up the boys uniform.

Apparently my hair was the main attraction, though. It was pulled back into a very short ponytail. However it was the color, or should I say colors, that made my new classmates gasp. My hair was a very light shade of silver, almost white, with jet black streaks, running from my bangs, which now hung over one eye, to the end of my ponytail. And my eyes, which were currently still boring into the students, were a violet shade of crimson. They pierced through the students like a spear and not a one of them would hold my gaze. Not one, except a lone boy in the very back of the classroom. His stormy blue eyes gazed out calmly at me from under his silvery gray hair.

"Okay now this is.." the teacher trailed off and looked at me for a name.

    "Saki," I almost whispered.

After a pause from the teacher she leaned in closer to me.

    "And your last name?"

I knew this would happen. Unfortunately, I didn't know my last name, or my first. I wondered if I even had a name. Saki was just something I put together in the few days that were my whole memory. I was told that 'they' found me, washed up on the beach.

"Tanaguchi," I finally replied, another false name.

The teacher smiled at me and pointed to herself.

"I will be your teacher for the rest of the year. You can call me Hikara-sensei or just Sensei if you want to."

She straightened and turned to the class.

"Now who will let Ms. Tanaguchi sit beside them?"

The room went dead silent, as if it were suddenly empty, as I expected. It still hurt though. However I wasn't even remotely prepared for what happened next.

"Sensei," called out the boy in the back of the class. " She can sit by me if she wants to," he said in a mild tone, as if contemplating if it would rain or not.

The teacher brightened and nodded. I walked down to the back of the classroom, feeling all eyes on me.
The desks were in pairs so I had to sit right by the strange boy. I guessed that meant we would be paired up for projects and whatnot.

"Hello, I'm Riku," the boy said as I sat down.

"Saki," I whispered roughly, jamming my bag on the hook that was on the side of the desk. The teacher had begun a lecture but I wasn't paying attention. When the bell rang I jumped out of my seat and grabbed my bag, almost ripping it on the small metal hook. I put it ove3r my shoulder and walked out, head down. The teacher handed my a piece of paper that was my schedule.

    "Thank you, Sensei," I whispered.

I continued out into the hall but as I looked down at my next class, I felt anything but gratitude. Amazing, how one word could ruin my day, send an array of unwanted emotions through me.

    One word.

    Chapter 2(part 1)
    --------------------------------------
I stood outside the coach’s office, feeling very out of place.

Oh crap, I’m gonna have to change in front of a bunch of girls that I don’t even know.

For the first time that day, I felt my guard slipping, fear creeping into my eyes. I abruptly hide it as the coach reappeared, holding a gym uniform. She smiled before handing it to me.

    “…Sensei, this is a b-“

I was cut off as she held up a hand.

“I heard that you don’t like to wear girl’s uniforms so I took the liberty to take a boy’s one,†She calmly stated, smiling wryly.

I felt my face beginning to turn hot and a blush crept its way up my neck. I stared at the ground, not knowing how to reply. The coach must have seen my discomfort for she laid a hand on my shoulder.

“Hey, Saki, it’s ok. Did you know? I did the same thing when I was your age.â€

I lifted my head and stared in wonder at her. I nodded gratefully and bowed.

    “Now go change!!â€

I hurried off to change, heading to the classroom that the girls used as a locker room. I stepped into the room and froze. Everyone stopped what they had been doing and stared at me. Quickly, scowling the whole way, I stomped to a dark corner and switched uniforms. The gym uniform was a little more comfortable, being made up of navy mesh shorts that came down to my knees, a light gray tee-shirt with the school logo on it, and some sneakers that Coach had lent to me.

As I walked out of the classroom and into the gym, I saw him. It was the boy from earlier, Riku. He flashed me a smile before walking over to me. He eyed my outfit for a moment, but was smart enough not to say anything about it. Instead he said something else.

“Well, Hikara-sensei made it so we have the same schedules.â€

He spread his arms out in a helpless gesture.

    “I guess you’re just stuck with me.â€

For the first time, that I could remember, a smile broke over my face. I didn’t try to hide it, just let it show. Riku’s eyes widened and he laughed.

    “So that’s you’re smile.â€

He gave me an approving nod before grabbing my hand and dragging me outside. The sun was bright, and it pierced through my eyes. I squinted and blinked a couple of times before we got to the track.

“Sensi, wants the class to run today,†said Riku

thanks for the comments, I appreciate them. Here is the next part of chapter 2!!^_^

    Chapter 2 part 2

    ------------------------------------
We stepped up to the gate and I looked around, suddenly noticing something. There were no girls on the track at all. I squirmed a little and piped up.

“Hey Riku…..is only the boy’s class running today?†I asked nervously.

Riku shook his head and laughed.

“No, it just takes longer for the girls to change than it does for the boys.†He answered back.

I tried on my smile again, making Riku laugh. Honestly I didn’t know what could be so funny about a smile. Putting that aside, I followed Riku into the gated track and began to jog. Suddenly an idea came to me.

    “Race me.â€

Riku looked at me and nodded.

    “You count,†he said.

    “One…..Two….THREE!!â€

We both shot off, picking up speed quickly. Riku was fast, like an arrow from a bow, but I was faster, a bullet from a gun. I felt myself pulling ahead and put in a final burst of speed, shooting ahead of Riku.

    “Okay, you win!!†he called out.

I skidded to a stop and jogged in place until he caught up. Beads of sweat rolled off of his red face. I’m sure I looked much the same.

“You’re lucky, Saki,†he said as he reached me.

We began jogging again and I looked over to him. I was shocked at what I had done, opening up to him like that. He had just caught me off guard and that was all.

    “Why is that?†I asked quietly.

He seemed to feel my mood change but said nothing about it.

“This is the last class of the day.â€

    “Oh†was all I said.

The rest of gym was uneventful and we went back to change back to regular uniforms. The bell rang and we filled out of the school and down the steps. I loosened my tie, as we made our way out.

“So what do we do n-“

I was abruptly cut off as Riku dragged me off, heading up the hill that was near the school.

    “Where are we going?!?!†I asked.

He turned his head slightly so that I caught one of his eyes. That look, he was excited about something. He was about to show me something, a big something.

“The island,†he finally said, just as we topped the hill.

You could see that whole half of the island. He pointed out offshore a little ways to a much smaller island.

“We call it Destiny Island, lame right?†he said, shrugging a little.

I mulled over the name for a moment before eplying.

    “I think it’s perfect.â€

yay, okay, so here is the next chapter and I have decided to keep writing this story. so here we go.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    Chapter 3
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    “I don’t know, Riku,†I said anxiously.

The boat that Riku stood in didn’t look too stable.

“Plus, I don’t know how to swim. What if the boat flips?†I asked nervously.

Riku held out his hand for me, smiling encouragingly.

“If it flips then I guess I get to save you,†he replied, still smiling.

With a sigh, I took his hand and stepped into the boat. I was very unsteady and fell into him. He wrapped his arms around me and it took all of his grace and balance not to dump us both into the ocean.

    “It’s ok, I’ve got you,†he said.

I pushed against him, sitting up.

    “Sorry,†I said breathlessly.

My eyes went wide when I realized how close we had come to going overboard and into the ocean.

    “Are you ok?†Riku asked, worried.

I nodded, shaking off the feeling. Riku looked at me hard, for a moment but shrugged and grabbed the oar.

“Here we go,†he said, tugging at the oars.

Immediately we began to move forward. It was slow but steady and soon we reached the smaller island, Destiny Island. Riku threw a rope, attached to our boat, and hooked a post on the dock. He stepped out and I followed a little more graceful this time. We barely got down the stairs when I heard them.

    “Stop!!!â€

I heard them before I saw them. Suddenly there were kids all around us. The only thing I could think of was that they had dropped from above, maybe from the trees. I didn’t have much time to worry about it though. They put something against our necks which, from its coarseness, I guessed it to be wooden. Riku rolled his eyes and turned to the tallest boy.

“Wakka, it’s me. Stop this,†he said, clearly annoyed.

“Let Riku go, but what to do with this one…I wonder?â€

The orange haired boy, whom Riku had called Wakka, turned to me. Riku stepped up beside him.

“She wants to join,†he said calmly.

I was glad that he seemed to know what was going on because I sure didn’t.

“So be it then,†said Wakka,†She will have to pass three tests then, but I warn you now; no girl has ever passed. We let the island girls come on because we know them, and we don’t know you.â€

I glared at Wakka and rolled my eyes.

    “Bring….it….on,†I said, stressing each word.

    Wakka laughed.

“You have to beat me in a race. The first one to the other side of the island and back wins.â€

At his signal, Riku began to count.

    “Three………â€

At this the people holding me released their grip and I fell forward into a crouch.

    “Two……..â€

At this Wakka shot forward but I waited. I was gonna win this fairly.

    “One!!!â€

My feet dug into the sand as I propelled myself forward. I closed the gap between us by the time we had reached the other end of the island. I touched the wooden door lightly and switched my weight, heading back in the other direction. Wakka had slammed into the door and turned, taking longer to start back the other way. Now I was about two feet ahead of him, gaining slowly. With a final burst, I shot past the finish line and came to stop. I had my hands on my knees, regaining my breath, when Wakka came storming back, huffing hard.

    “Pass,†was all he got out.

The boy who had been holding me turned to face me now, drawing his wooden sword.

    “Test two,†he sad grinning.

Riku tossed me a sword and I weighed it in my hand before giving it back and getting into a crouch. The boy nodded and shot towards me, sword held out to the side with one hand. I waited loosely, knees bent and my hands down by my sides, feet apart abut shoulder width. He reached me and swung his blade, from left to right. I ducked and reached up, poking his chest.

    “Dead,†I said softly.

This seemed to make him angry and he leapt back a little before taking a stab at me. I moved a little to the left and put my hand out. I guided the sword, using it’s own strength, over to the left, taking the boy with it. Just as he passed me, I balled my hand up in a fist and sent it into his stomach. He breathed out hard and fell to the ground, gasping and gaping like a fish. I held out my hand and he grasped it. I pulled him up to his feet.

“She got you didn’t she, Tidus?†Riku said, chuckling.

    Tidus grinned and nodded.

    “You pass.â€

There was a pause and then Riku stepped forward.

    “Follow,†he said solemnly.

I took the hint and followed, slowly and somberly. He took me to a cliff on the side of the island. We had to climb it, but there were many handholds so it wasn’t very difficult. Once we got to the top, Riku took me to the edge. He pointed out over the cliff.

    “Third test.â€

My heart did a flip as I peered over the side to the rocky bottom.

“When you hit the water you may black out but we’ve got people at the bottom to help you if you do.†Riku explained to me.

I sighed, might as well. I didn’t need to think about who would miss me if something happened, I didn’t have anyone. I took a deep breath and flung myself out over the cliff. As I fell, it felt like someone was pulling at me. Suddenly, though, I blacked out.
