There wasn't really a general thread for this. but here's one I love these guys and hope they keep making music
I loved the Derezzed mix in the Tron Legacy OST. I'd love to battle as Sora to that music if Tron is ever in another KH game... I still love their old work like Around the World and One more time.
I am actually not a fan. I find that to me they are over-rated and over-hyped, and whilst their music isn't neccessarily bad, I don't think it is the orgasmic fantastic beauty that everyone is always trying to convince me that it is.
I've always liked 'em a lot, but there was one thing that turned me off about them before. It was that a lot of there music is sample based, but there barely do anything to the samples. DJ Premier, Justice, Just Blaze, these guys really know how to chop samples, mess with them and actually sample music the way it should be sampled. I still really like Daft punk though, and their Tron OST turned my opinion around, it was very good
Daft Punk has some pretty addictive tracks I must say, more so in their older stuff but the Tron Legacy OST wasn't horrible either. Around the World still has to be my favorite song by them though.
I have to say, Tron OST aside, Daft punk's old stuff is really their better stuff. I personally only ever liked their Discovery album, Harder Better Faster Stronger in particular.
KHV first introduced me to their music and though I'm not a hardcore fan, I have heard a few tracks by them and they're all right.
As someone who likes Daft Punk, they're an example of a group that knows how to mix visuals and sound. Just look at Tron Legacy, that movie would not have had such a great atmosphere if it weren't for the Daft Punk score. I actually find their work much less entertaining if its not paired with the visuals that go with it. So really, Discovery is best when heard as part of Interstella 5555. Also, Alive 2007 proves that they are much better live.
I've only been liking a few of their older more popular songs like "one more time," "digital love," and "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger." Their OST for Tron: legacy is always a treat to listen to. The Finale song is just so epic sounding.
I've got most of their older tracks, like Robot Rock, Around the World, Alive, and One More Time. I have yet to listen to the Tron OST, but people here have said some good things about it so I might just have to give it a listen sometime.
