Cutscene Archive Update - Kingdom Hearts Final Mix in HD!

    Today I'm excited to announce an exciting and long-anticipated addition to our Cutscene Archive... scenes from Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, presented in lovely 1080p HD, for your viewing and editing pleasure!

    For some time now the sole scenes we've had available from Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix have been from the Japanese release, recorded by @Mixt over a year ago. With Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix now upon us, I've kicked my butt into gear to personally provide you all with the HD scenes you've been waiting for. Of course, there was a steep learning curve for me, which was part of the delay! I can't tell you how many times I started recording from the game, found a better recording process, then started again from scratch. Still, I feel it was all worth it -- they're some mighty nice lookin' videos!

    Each video is encoded using H264 for maximum quality and compatibility, and is available in both AVI and MP4 format (choose whichever works best for you -- quality-wise, they're identical!). Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix's native resolution is 1440x810 for most cutscenes (the FMVs are 720p), so the videos have been slightly stretched to 1080p for ease and familiarity. But really, seeing is believing -- so check out one of the videos, uploaded to our YouTube Channel:

    Now I will warn you that just a few videos are missing -- I still have to grab the secret endings, Another Side, Another Story and Deep Dive, but it shouldn't take long! As such, we've yet to put up the bulk download links until we have a complete collection. Once that's finished, I'll set my sights on Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, while @Karuta continues plugging away on videos from Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix.

      Very nice :) Thanks!

      Are you planning on eventually adding the secret boss cutscenes? Chain of Memories and Days are more important of course, so I wouldn't want you to get hung up on that stuff.

      And any details on the scenes for 2.5? Are they also 1080p, and are they Japanese or English? Just curious.

      Ha, I'll have to actually beat the secret bosses! I've actually never done so, but for this playthrough I used a save editor to get me to level 100 from the start so I could fly through the game, so it's a great possibility. I do have the Sepiroth scenes in there so it only makes sense to grab the rest, especially the Xemnas scene. Maybe I'll try grabbing them when I go back in for the secret endings.
      For that you'll have to ask @Karuta, he's the one working on them!

      I can't tell you how excited I am to see this update. I was literally hit with the bug to make a kingdom hearts video for the first time in four and a half years and I was in the process of getting the KH I vids when the page changed and low and behold shiny HD quality awaited me. I'm so excited for 2.5 to come out and I'm just so happy you guys are keeping up with the site and keeping such a great archive running. Thanks so much. ;u;

      I'm curious, though, and this may sound like a silly question, how much better quality are the remixes? From what I've seen of 1.5 Remix, it doesn't look too different from the original, but that just may be me.

      Resolution is the main thing. Original was 480p, whereas this goes up to 1080p. Almost six times the number of pixels, which means a much clearer picture. Anti-aliasing is improved, which means the edges of objects don't look all jagged. A lot of textures are also improved, so there's a lot less fuzziness and pixelation on surfaces, and colors may be more vivid. If you compare the stained glass in the beginning of the game, it's really obvious there. It's a remaster, not a remake, so it's not completely overhauled and there's still some funky stuff, but it is quite a bit better.

      Note that a lot of people playing the original game on Youtube are using emulators, where they can upscale the game to whatever resolution their computer can handle. So with that, the difference is less noticeable. You have to compare it to the actual PS2 recordings.

      The Japanese 2.5 scenes are being rendered in 720p because otherwise the whole process would just take me so much longer and I want to get these scenes out asap.
      The English scenes will be in 1080p though.

      Oh boy am I going to LOVE that 1080P Glory on my TV! With more pixels on screen, smoother edges, and a clearer picture, it's more than enough of a reason to pick up 2.5 and dust off my PS3 sitting in the corner. Dat glorious video too as well~

      This is just awesome! Love the quality and also really appreciate that you used Kingdom Key throughout. Wonderful work!
      Heads up though, you should probably post a link to the page in the Cutscene Archive. Only other thing is Traverse Town Second Visit not having MP4 yet but I'm sure you'll handle that in all due time. You're the best.

      Glad that you thought ahead. I didn't want to say anything because I know how much work this takes, but I noticed a few missing scenes while skimming through the videos. Not sure if you're aware of them or not:

      -Traverse Town (first visit) - Random guy gets his heart stolen
      -Olympus Coliseum (second visit) - Conversation with Herc and Phil after beating the Hercules Cup
      -Hollow Bastion (first visit) - Sora appears as a Heartless when Kairi, Donald, and Goofy are running away

      No rush, of course ^.^; Thanks again for the videos!

      Yup using the Kingdom Key was a big priority for me! It can detract from a really serious scene when all of a sudden Sora is waving the Sweet Memories keyblade around (which is a KH2 keyblade but still).
      Yup will grab that too! There is a link on the archive, though, it just took the place of the original KH1 scenes -- the page does need to be updated to reflect that they're in HD, though, and they need to be added to the KH HD box.
      I'm pretty certain the scene with Phil and Herc is in Olympus second visit? But I'll take a look at the rest!
