You guys hear about this? I find it really scary. A cruise ship actually tipping over and killing 6 people.
Here's a little bit about what happened:
And actually, there's a little bit more to it, so I'll post some from the other articles. They actually found out that the reason was that the ship veered off course just so a waiter could say hello to his family......really smart people, realy smart.

I think this incident was both tragic and avoidable.

Personally, I find the captain's actions disgraceful as he was responsible for everyone on board and should have done everything he could to make sure passengers and staff evacuated safely. Telling people that it was an electrical problem was just plain wrong. Why couldn't they have told the truth?

Apparently one of the passengers has described it as 'just like the Titanic', which is pretty stupid imo.. :l

Yeah, it's not even close to being like the Titanic. And I really don't like that they do relate it to that, because this was not even close to being as bad as Titanic

This makes me rethink taking a cruise vacation o.o

But seriously, though, the captain and crew should of taken more responsibility and action when it came to trying to evacuate the ship and making sure people were safe and stuff.

What a terrible cruise ship captain :(

So much for a captain always goes down with his ship, disgraceful man. With the level of equipment we have on ships these days it's puzzling that a ship of that caliber would run into a rock. You have to assume the crew was not paying enough attention. A tragedy that should have been avoided.

I can't help but feel sorry and yet also laugh at the same time. Who in their right mind thought it would be a GREAT idea to go by a guy's family?

The Titanic was a High quality ship and still sunk down.
Still sad to hear of the six casualties. Not a lot, but imagine if you knew those 6 people...

EDIT - Post somehow doubled, my bad.

As bad and tragic as this is, I think we should also look at the other side of it. Even with all this chaos, everything going wrong and procedures not followed if you look at the numbers out of 4200 people only about 40 are dead/missing. As sad it is for those people and how much this should have been avoided, it is really a tribute to how much we've improved safety. Also to say how many people survived such a disaster, it's not all bad news.

umm, there's not 40 dead. As far as we know, there's only 11 dead(they just found 5 more bodies). I was actually watching the TV at McDonald's while waiting 3 hours to go to my class, and right now they're blowing holes into the ship so they can find more people. And they also found a recording of the captain and coast gaurd, and the guy's lying his face off right now. He's told like 3 completely different stories. And it turns out that it's just laying on a undersea cliff, so they have to hurry, because if it falls they're really going to have problems

I hope the captain gets more than 15 years in prison. Disgusting and disgraceful. On the news I heard that the crew "mutinied" when the captain wasn't ordering evacuations, and started evacuating the passengers themselves.

It's definitely nowhere near the catastrophe that was the Titanic. But it does bare some clear similarities. For one, this ship is absolutely huge. To hit a rock big enough to knock it over would take an extreme amount of neglect, similar to the neglectful increase of speed that Ismay encouraged of the Titanic.

although aren't they different circumstances? I mean, with the Titanic the captain just decided to speed up even though he was told to slow down because of ice, and they were going too fast to get away from the iceburg. This one was caused by a captain deviating from the course just for a person only to hit rocks which I'm sure they could see on their radar. And if not, they've got some problems. One wasn't possible to keep from happening because they couldn't see what was about to happen, this one they could have easily kept from happening

Oh, I know that, I said 'dead/missing' there was something like 10 dead and 30 missing so I simply clumped them together, sorry I was just being lazy. That emphasises my point more though how good it was that there were so few casulties despite all the things that went wrong. This will mean there will be a sudden increase of all the safety features, after a long time with no accidents they tend to get lax and this should sort that out.

That being said, that captain is simply disgraceful.

So now the captain has come up with another excuse as to why he wasn't on the ship.
He claimed that he was helping the passengers get into the lifeboats through all of the painc, and he accidentally slipped and fell......into a lifeboat that just HAPPENED to be floating where he was falling!!
Let me tell you captain boy, no one is going to believe this tall tale, considering there's practically no way for a lifeboat to just coincedentally be floating under the point of where you "slipped and fell".

The jury because he'll probably throw that when he goes to court soon. I don't know about you, but I have a feeling that there's going to be one person that thinks he's telling the truth. I'm going to hate that person.
