    My god this is tragic.

About 27 confirmed dead, 18 of those children. The gunman is allegedly dead inside the building, according to officials.

    Humanity... where have you gone?

    This.

I really don't know what to say. May the victims rest in peace. Their families will be in my prayers.

I'm so disgusted by this. I don't know how anyone can do something like this.

Newtown is about a little less than an hour from me. It's heartbreaking...

The same place the idiots in Uganda are.

Heartbreaking, indeed. Does anyone know why he did it?

It really is such a tragedy. It's not the first time that there was a shooting against children at a school, but it's now especially scary for a lot of parents, teachers, and young children to even go to school.

I heard the gunman was the son of the principal at the school. Perhaps his actions were trying to reveal some kind of glaring flaw in the education system, if the purpose was to defame school. Whatever the case, I hope that these families will find more security in their lives.

Actually, his mother was a teacher at the school, who was also killed.

You know, if necromancy were real, I would learn it just to bring back that shooter and kill him myself. I'm pretty sure he's most certainly getting his just deserts right now where he is.

I can't believe some guy would come in to an elementary school and just start shooting. Did the guy have some kind of vendetta against kids or what? This is just wrong in so many ways, and I have no way to say that without repeating myself.

Seriously? He killed his own mother? What kind of dumb moron (seriously restraining myself from vulgar language) actually shoots his own mother?

And that gives him the right to target innocent lives? That'd probably be his defense when he shows up in court.

"When he shows up in court"? He's kinda dead. Even if he were still alive, I doubt he'd have any kind of defense either way

    From what I've heard...

    18 children died
    6 adults died
2 children injured, later died at the hospital
1 adult still injured at the hospital
1 Gunman killed. There wasn't any others, at least so far that we've heard.
1 additional adult killed off of school campus

In total 28 deaths. The gunman was 24 years old. Apparently the 1 additional adult killed off of the school campus was his father. He entered the school, killed the principle and went into his mother's classroom who he killed, along with the kids. Two classrooms were involved.

Story is just awful in all levels. The fact that they were kids...and that it happened around the holidays (ugh, I can't even).

Well that's the reality of life. I don't want to sound like a dumbass, but that's just how it is. Im sure there's worse **** going on somewhere. This pisses me off as much as it does you guys, and I wish the killer hadn't taken his life out of ****ing being a coward. Damn it there must've been something wrong with this guy, and if the parents knew, I wonder why they never did anything about it.

Welp, I guess it's too soon to start making guesses. Still, it pisses me off.

Also, there was a shooting too, in Oregon.

    ****...

I can't believe this is still happening so much in America. I don't endorse private citizens with guns, for this reason. And I hate it when people make comments about 'teachers should've had guns and stopped this before it started'. What teacher do you trust with a gun? Who works around your kids all day long? What if a student had got the fire arm?

Killing leads to killing. This is the way of murder. Stop it before it starts

Yes this is a tragic and terrible event. My thoughts are with those who have suffered so much in this awful event. But what does it matter that it happened around the holidays?[DOUBLEPOST=1355537724][/DOUBLEPOST]
Also, gonna play devil's adovocate here, a similar event happened today in China. Man went into an elementary school and slashed kids with a knife. People will kill and murder if they have the drive for it.

That. Is not. How grief. Works.

You cannot dismiss something, especially not like this, with the excuse that others have it worse. It is completely intolerable.

Fun fact: Michigan lawmakers passed a law the other day that allows concealed weapons in school. Any chance they'll reconsider now?

Im just saying that people may be extremely shocked by this, but it just seems like they don't realize that there are people out there in the world who have it as bad. Im just trying to do a wake-up call.

My comment was not meant to be all "who cares about this there's worse stuff"

He made a thread on /b/ about how he wanted to kill himself and he said it would make the news, and being /b/, they egged him on and convinced him to shoot the children.

Before you guys get too worked up, let me say something.

There are thousands among thousands of innocent children around the same age being killed every month in the middle eastern countries. Which ones? Too many too list right now. The point is, the only reason this is a big deal is that it's in America. If this was in any other part of the world, I assure you that most US citizens would say "Oh, that's tragic... So what were you saying about [insert topic here]?" It's as if what happens in other parts of the world is just considered the daily motions, the norm, etc. Here, when there is a shooting, "OH **** HIDE YOUR KIDS THERE ARE PSYCHOS ON THE LOOSE." In Syria, there could be 18 dead as well and "Welp."

The point? If you're going to get all distraught over this, get distraught over other killings globally.

It's more the fact that it's so close to what we as Americans, consider safe. Even after the numerous school shootings I have seen in my scant 25 years, I still cannot accept it. Perhaps we think that places like Syria shouldn't factor into our personalities because they are so far away that we can't fathom the distance. I just wish the media wouldn't sensationalize these shootings so much and try to build a psychological profile and pick apart just why they did what they did.

These children were kindergartners and having a niece about that age really brings it home. There will be presents that won't be opened on Christmas morning. There will be empty stockings. These kids won't be able to grow up and experience everything. They won't get their driver's license. They won't go to prom. They won't graduate high school. They won't go to college. They won't get married and have kids of their own. All those memories that won't be made. Their parents will be forced to live with the knowledge that they outlived their children. Which is a terrible thing to endure.
