I feel absolutely awful for the family members who lost loved ones in this incident, and yet have no idea where their remains are. I do hope they find the plane (or most of it) soon, and get some answers on what really happened to it.

I've heard about this. A lot of people seem to be connecting this to the bermuda triangle for obvious reasons but it's really weird how a plane just up and vanished.

I did actually make a joke about that and the Bermuda triangle today... Weirdly enough.

But yeah, it's sad what's going on. I'm amazed this could happen with the technology we have today.

This terrifies and also confuses me to an extent. While I understand that sometimes, technology malfunctions, but at the same time, why are people flying over or going near the Bermuda Triangle?

Well nothing IS actually stated or confirmed about it being within the bermuda triangle itself but thats what people are connecting this to.

Someone get me up to speed.

What exactly is the Bermuda triangle and why is it considered bad?

    Hm, I see.
It would make sense, seeing as the Bermuda Triangle has had connections to many different disappearances in the past and all.

Yeah but it's weird that this seems to be not really close to the bermuda triangle looking at the video footage on the actual article. It really is weird and terrifying that a fully loaded plane with passengers and all can just vanish like that and not even be above or close to the Bermuda triangle. The chinese got a low quality photo of the plane at some point but it was too far away to make out specifics.

    It' s an urban legend : http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bermuda_Triangle

Can' t we just look at satellites pictures or something ? I guess we' re not that advanced yet.

So they don't have any photos of it at the moment in time that it vanished?
    Quite a mystery...

Yeah, the Bermuda Triangle is a joke/legend, but I did hear that hurricanes cause part of the problem. Not sure if it's true or not.

I think the reason it's used is cross-winds and traveling speed compared to other routes in the area, especially when boats were used and the legend was considered if not true, very superstitious. (Which is interesting because most sailors live their whole lives based on luck and superstition. I.E.: Some don't sail on a specific name and/or number of times it's gone out. Hell, one quit working at a boat because a passenger shot at a dolphin.)

But yeah, it's very odd... I heard some passengers are demanding full-paid vacations around the world due to the disappearance.

This is horrible, it's one thing a plane crashing but just disappearing- that gives people hope to hang onto that they could still be out there. Now that could be a good or a bad thing but that could go on indefinitely and not allow the people to move on. I hope they find the plane soon.

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that Methane vents on the ocean floor is the source of ill luck on the Bermuda Triangle. It messes with buoyancy of ships or something, causes the ocean floor to reflect on the surface (so the wreckage of sunken ships is seen on the surface as "ghost ships"), and if it rises, it can mess with a plane's electrical system. Not sure how accurate that is, though.

It's really sad and distressing that a plane can "disappear." I know that they've proven that two men who boarded together used fake passports, but that's apparently a common thing for people to travel there with fake names for "business." They've also established that the plane was in flight for (at least) four hours after they lost it and have been asking other countries if any unidentified aircrafts have entered their air spaces, but apparently, none haven't.

Not sure how accurate wikipedia is on that one either but :
Apparently the disappearance rate in the triangle is nothing special, so scientist aren' t exactly in a hurry to solve the "mystery".

The Chinese posted some satellite images but they were apparently a bust.

The latest development suggests the airplane deliberately disabled it's communication and was flying for several hours after communication was lost.

Well... They supposedly know the area where it crashed:

    http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/24/world/asia/malaysia-airlines-plane/index.html?hpt=wo_c2

If you read further, you realize they found out because the airlines texted the families telling them that their loved ones were dead and there's no hope they're alive.

Whoever their human relations person is for this airline needs to be sacked, badly. It's all over the news already.

They texted them? Breaking up with someone over text is one thing but that is terrible. Also, I don't think it can be said for certain that they are dead until the wreckage has been found. I suppose it's good that they don't let the families live on the hope of a tiny chance that they are still alive as that could be soul crushing but at the same time, we still don't know for sure. I guess all explanations don't really make sense apart from the plane crashed but why can't we find the wreckage?
