The synchronization on my computer's clock keeps getting out of synchronization, and I'm not sure how to fix it.
Yes, I've tried re-synchronizing it, and it just gets out of synchronization again.

It re-synchronizes automatically every two weeks or so, but for some reason, it's messing up now.

Also, it's only a few seconds, but still.

I'm not sure, but maybe it's getting messed up because other places (I don't know if you're getting daylight saving time) the clock have changed. Here in Brazil, since yesterday the clock is one hour less (My weekend had 47 hours instead of 48! >_<)

But whatever it is, probaly the re-synchronization would be back to the normal in no time. More likely in 2 weeks, I believe; when it re-syncronizes again. :)

Actually, it's one week, as I re-did it last night, and the next automatic one is on Sunday.

Anyway, though, why would it mess up the seconds?

It could be that the CMOS battery has died. Is your date messed up as well?

Sorry for double-posting, but it's getting worse now.

It's 50 seconds off now, which is 10 seconds away from being a minute off.

So I was just reading this (see 3rd post), and according to that, it's not my battery, as my year is not being reset.

If it's not the battery, then what else could it be? I'm stumped.
As soon as I manually synchronize it, it starts not staying synchronized again.

Hmm. Have you checked to see if your BIOS is displaying the right time? Restart your computer and Press F2 while its booting up (before the windows loading screen comes up).

Okay, just checked -- although it was the Delete key for me.

Anyway, everything's right. It said it was October 26, 2011, and it had the right time.

It was 8:26 PM PDT when I looked, so to quote it exactly...

Not to be rude, but is there some reason you need it to be exact?

I mean mine would have to be off by something like five minutes before I would be likely to even notice. Closer to 10 or 15 before I would care.

If it isn't harming anything then this would be an easy one to just let go. Your clock speed is a bit off of what your computer thinks it is and that is a very dangerous thing to go messing with.

Well, I'm just picky when it comes to stuff like that.
Also, it grows as the day goes on.

It does get fixed when my PC is turned off for the night, but the cycle starts again in the morning.
It's noticeable, too, when I'm moving around the forum. The PC clock says, say, 8:51 PM, but the forum says 8:50 PM.

It's not so much that, though, it's the fact that is suddenly started a few days before I created this thread.

The too long, didn't read version:
I like the time, at least on the computer, to be exact.

Okay... try going to your command prompt (Start--> Run --> cmd)

Type "net stop w32time" (without quotes) and hit enter. Then type "w32tm /unregister" (without quotes) and hit enter. Then "w32tm /register" (without quotes) and hit enter. And finally "net start w32time" (without quotes) and hit enter. Exit the command prompt.

Then reboot and see if it still does it.

Not sure if it worked or not, but I did it.

The first one was successful, the second gave me an access denied, so I tried it without the space before the slash. and it said the time was successfully registered, and the last one was the same as the second.

I must have done something wrong, because it's at it again.

    • Your first step is successful for me
    • The second one gives me an access denied message, and if I try it without the space before "/unregister", it says the time has been "registered" (what?)
    • The "/register" one works with or without spaces
    • The last step works

Either you made a typo or I made a mistake somewhere -- I am a newb at this stuff.
