Site News Coming Soon: KH-Vids.net 4.0

Hey guys, he's just a a quick list of what's to come within the next week or so.

The Good:
- KHV will be upgraded to vB 4.0.x (not sure which one). This will open up new opportunities for design and plugins as well.
- There will be a new skin. (still in production)
- Audio Archive will be updated further.
- Homepage will have work done to it.
- Server will be cleaned and organized. (ongoing)

The Bad:
- All our current skins will be rendered useless in vB 4.0. (at least from the start)
- When we get the vB upgrade, we will have to start off with the default skin. This means KHV will more the likely be shut down temporarily while we finish installing the new skin to go with vB 4.0. How long will that take? To be honest I'm not sure. We will keep you posted throughout the maintenance though.

Before you ask "Why 4.0 and not 3.8?", the cold truth is that the support and updates for 3.8 are already starting to be neglected by vB. We don't want to be left behind again on our version.

We ask that you please bear with us while these changes are going on. The staff will be working very hard to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Not right away, except the default. Dark Days won't be around either. Like I said, our current skins won't be compatible with 4.0.

 

xDDD You guys are joking right? vB4 is a mess. The skin system is a nightmare, on top of that, it is developed by a company who has never developed forum software or any for that matter.

Well we have a pretty old version that isn't supported anymore and it's better than nothing.

 

As far as the new skin goes, think it could be a green theme? Like this fake one that I made a while ago?

I'm not sure on the account crap, but will we still have our accounts? Like will they be ported over?​

 

I believe everything account wise will remain the same, since we are just upgrading and not actually changing a host site.

And as for the skin, it's already been decided upon as to what we are doing, so please don't spam this thread with suggestions as to what you think it should be.

 

I have nothing to say on the matter except, hope everything doesn't go to hell when the upgrade hits.

 

Considering the fact you can only buy licenses for vB4, my guess is that all of vB3 (including 3.8) will no longer be supported. I mean look at the mods for our current version (3.7 isn't even that old), I haven't seen anything new in months.

Yes, you will still have your accounts. I think the only way you would lose your account is if we ever left vB, which to my knowledge we don't plan on doing any time soon.

 

lol it doesn't matter to me. I'm just waiting to see how this looks. Other than the looks of the new verison, is there something else that they've added? (like wayy before back in the day there weren't VM's)

 

Well there is a blogging feature, but I don't know if RvR plans to implement it. Other than that there are fixes of bugs and the like, as it is pretty much a completely new software built from the ground up. Visitor messaging still exists, as does a large majority of the features we have right now. On top of that, we will also now have access to newer and more updated plugins, to hopefully make the site that much better. All account information will most likely be preserved as well.

As for the skin... right now me, Wolfie, and RvR have been going back and forth, and from what I've seen of what we're planning, I have no concerns. <3 UNLESS WOLFIE DOESN'T FIX THAT TEXT. >:| Have some faith in us, lol.

And you can actually upgrade to vB 3.8, you have to purchase the vB 4.0 license so we're figuring why not? They do still technically support 3.8, but it's only a matter of time before they stop.

 

I wonder if username colors will be changed again.

 

Ahahahaha, sorry but this entire thread makes me laugh. No offense RvR or the rest of the staff but 4.0 is crap. However, I know Misty and Wolfie will make it look amazing. ^^ And I have complete hope in your abilities!

 

I had my reserves too, I mean the features look pretty solid but I've yet to really see a board make it actually look good. But I know I have pretty high standards and I'm sure Wolfie, RvR, and the rest of the staff do.

 

Hey well, you can only keep an older version for so long. I think we can make the best of what it has to offer.

I don't like vB4, as I was talking with Toshi these days (don't say anything about my friendship with him, he's a great guy no matter what everyone says.)

It's full of glitches, not to mention that KHV's on a very laggy server, why didn't you guys asked spdude to get us out of there instead of changing everything?

I am NOT up for being a n00b on the site once again, I have most of my friends here on FB and MSN, so it's not crucial that I stay here anymore >.>

We need an upgrade, tbh. This version of vB is no longer supported, firstly, and we've got a lot of bugs that have proven difficult to fix. If we ever want to improve the site, we're going to have to upgrade at some point. It's not as if you're going to be losing all of your posts or anything, it's just going to be a new version of vB. Same forum. Same people. I haven't seen much lag as of late, if you have we'd of course like to know, but it's been running exceptionally well.

Lags aren't here, but it's the server that worries me...

What if they comeback, vB4 is way heavier, and there are stuff that you can't do there..

I will stay for a bit after it upgrades, to say my farewell to everyone here.
But as I don't like the whole 4 version, I'll be gone in no time...
