Hey guys, I was wondering do you know or are you a person that has colorblindness? I am one of those 100% Colorblind and all colors kind of zone out. With me, I see the opposite of the color. EX: Blue -----> Purple Red -----> Brown and/or Green So, for the REAL debate, I heard that when you enroll in the military, you cannot join if you are colorblind. Do you people think that this should be allowed? Why or why not?
so your "Wanna have some Ice Cream with me?" in your sig is a different color to you? and i don't know that seeing colors different should effect something you do in the military...drivings another story...
If signals are given based on colour then it would affect something massively, plus different opponents may identify themselves through the use of colour etc. Or even the fact that in the military you could be operating machinery etc which you would need colour vision for. I personally think it is right that people who are colourblind can't join the military. It is something you need to be in top condition for, and whilst I understand it could be frustrating if someone really wants to sign up, I can see (and support) why they couldn't.
That's what I was thinking. I was also thinking of those old flag signals they often used, and many of those were different colors too. One of my good friends is color blind, but it doesn't bother him too much. We used to tease him while table-top gaming to pass something of X color and we'd get what was X color to him, but was really Y color.
Yup basically! I just picked random colors. I can't see em to pick em. Haha! I understand. Thats what my professor said when I asked him. Basically.
One of my friends is slightly colorblind. Dark shades of green seem gray to him. He says it doesn't bother him much. I tease him sometimes for it, like the other day we were talking about spiderman and i said "the green goblin-or in your case the gray goblin". I definitely agree with the military thing. CTR said it perfectly.
...there is a gray goblin >> But yeah, my comic geekiness aside, I would say it depends on how much colors are used in the armed forces, I honestly don't know the answer to that. If there's not much, I don't find it a valid excuse, but if there's a decent number of signals, it's obviously not fair to put a soldier in that position.
My sister's boyfriend is partially colourbind. Some colours look as they should be, but some are the opposite, or close to the opposite of what they should be. Certain shades of green look brown to him, for example. It is quite understandable that they wouldn't allow someone who is colourblind to be on the front lines. For safety reasons: certain uniforms are certain colours, reading radar screens, etc. But I would think that you may be able to find a job in the military that's more technical than on the front lines. You should definitely look into it if it's what you want. (:
