Yeah, why isn't it legal everywhere yet? I'm assuming you mean that, because there's little reason to be against this.

Smartest thing to do with marijuana is tax the hell out of it. Obviously making it illegal isn't doing anything so making it legal means we can finally make some profit out of this and squeeze out some violence associated with drugs like this.

As someone who isn't for or against legalizing, I don't really think we're better off because of this (don't take that as me saying that we're worse off because of it by the way). Though, I'm kinda hoping it becomes legalized just so people will shut up about it.

Define "better off." Less people in jail for a stupid reason. Less time and money spent on chasing recreational smokers and more on better things. A lot more money going into the economy.

This is probably the best economical sense I have heard on the topic in years. Bravo!

It will be interesting to see how Americans deal with it, hopefully if they're responsible enough it'll actually be legalised more so. But personally not completely bothered how it goes, just hope it's not a problem.

Don't forget regulation. It'll be as assessable as an over the counter drug, rendering drug dealing useless (For the most part, with marijuana at least). There's nothing to hide, therefore no need to be conspicuous.

It would be interesting to see how this plays out, especially with the Mexican drug war.

I wouldn't be surprised if this would drive up street prices in other states.

I'm quite happy to hear this, marijuana should be legalized--it's probably just as if not less dangerous than alcohol, and I generally think people are free to do whatever as long as they're not hurting anyone. Taxing it will be good for us, as well. Hope more states will follow.

Or the mere fact that it dwindles much trade completely. Not sure how exactly it will play out, never been a deviant person in such matters before nor do I e'er intend to in the future.

Whereas it may not hurt anyone, you gotta be aware of the personal consequences thereof. The amount of THC that you can have during a consumption whilst driving is 5 nanograms, but the problem is it'll stay in your system for a long time, even after the effects have worn out. So if driving under the influence becomes a problem for whatever reason, it will not be as easy to test as alcohol related tests.

Putting all of my morals aside I can see how this can be a good thing, but I don't have enough faith in America to see this not fall on its face.

Because of all the rules and restrictions that have been put on it the positive effects this will have will be minimal, people will seek other resources because of the tax and limit to how much can be obtained at once. Young people will continue to seek alternative sources as they always have because of the age limit, and I wouldn't be surprised if this dramatically affects illegal drug use. You will have people who, because it is now legal, will probably be willing to give it a try, and then continue on to more powerful substances once they've sacrificed their morals just because something is legal, making reduced sentences irrelevant.

As I said I know that taxing it would bring in a lot of money, but there will be more negative side affects, that gives legalizing it the potential to do more harm than good.

also, it's not the dangers of marijuana that I don't think it should be legalized (I'm fully aware about the alcohol vs marijuana statistic) , but the things that marijuana can lead to that makes me disagree with this.

And I totally understand that, but I have faith that people will use it maturely. People drive under the influence already, I don't feel the numbers will skyrocket now that it's legalized--in fact, I could see them improving as the social stigma attached to smoking weed / stop it making appear the "rebellious" thing to do falls away.

Yes indeed. There will always be ones that use it maturely, and others that will not so much.

In regards the rebelliousness, the whole matter is a form of reverse-psychology. Make the rule that everyone breaks allowable, there is then no reason to go out and break that rule. (Or no thrill should I say.)

I know so many of my friends that turned 21 and drinking just stopped being interesting to them. They abused it so much when they were teenagers. There's no point for them to do it now.

Exactly--kids are going to smoke weed no matter we do, I'd rather they buy it in a safe and controlled atmosphere and are educated about doing it maturely.
