i am wanting to make axels chakrams for a cosplay im wanting to do. so if anyone knows what the best/cheapest way then please tell me.
Cheapest way? Get two black pieces of foam board and trace the chakram pattern onto them. Foam board costs about $3-$5 a piece. Paint them with silver, red and black paint (I used Rustoleum spray paint). If you want them to be sturdier, you can cover the foam board with Crayola Model Magic before painting them. I did this with my pair of chakrams and most of the stuff I already had. Cost me $15 to make them. To get someone else to make them out of wood would have been something like $50+.
No trouble, and I hope the stuff I PM'ed you helps a little too. Forgot to mention I made my pair three years ago, and they're still standing strong.
awesome. i already made the diagram for it. it kinda sucks. btw is it all one peace? or is it seprate from the outside spikes. one more question. how long does it take to make them? im planning on using glossy paint so it will be shiny.
1) Is it all one piece? Yep. The whole thing is one piece. You cut it out of the foam board using an X-acto knife (a scalpel, basically). 2) How long does it take to make them? Err....it took me about two weeks to cut them out, layer them and paint them, but that was while juggling a school and work schedule. If you have more free time than I did, it will take less time. I also allowed for paint to dry, the Model Magic to set up and to let my finger rest after using the scalpel. You will get a blister from carving those things out, I'll warn you ahead of time.
ok. XD i thought i had to make the spikes then glue them on with hot glue. because the foam board would be too short
Nope, it's large enough that all the spikes will be on there. I even took them a step further and dipped a few tips into red paint, so it looked like I just came back from taking out Vexen. That was fun (until a Vexen cosplayer tackled me out of spite).
