Now to start of, the immortal I am talking about is not when your invicible. I'm talking about a way to live continually but with the possibilty of being killed.

I'm talking about how through certain methods in your body can be rejuvinated back to your youth, like copying your cells at the age of 20 and when your older during a course of time like entering a maturing state (such as a catipillar into a butterfly)or a better word would be immaturing, and finally coming back as the 20 year old you were once. Using this method considerably in your own life would effectively give you the ability to live forever.

Could something such as immortality be accomplished by humans?

Maybe in the future, but I dont think we should play god,and if one person can live forever then everyone else would want to,and that isnt fair and isnt natural.

Technically, I suppose it would be possible, if we had a way to affect every cell in the body, all at the same time, and add back in the DNA from when you were 20. But, there's no way we can achieve anything like that today.

    It's called Zombie Powder!

But really, we coudln't techincally be young forver. There are alot of disease like Alzheimers, Osteoporosis, and Artheritis that is caused by young age. We can't just overcome old age because we'd have to overcome all these diseases that we're still trying to cure. However, if you create new, young cells in the body, all those bone problems will be gone. But I personally wouldn't want to be young forever. Sure, I won't be able to anything like I used to be able to, but isn't that life? I wouldn't want to mess with it.

Yeah, MAYBE its possible and if its possible it will be possible in the future, but people REALLY REALLY have to improve with technology and stuff to make that happen.

No, unless scientists find a way to stop, or slow Cellular degradation then it will never happen, because, Aging occurs, not from years lived, but because over time, the cells in one's body begin to degrade. This degradation is what causes death, because eventually the immune system begins to fail, making one susceptible to various illnesses, the body becomes frail, making one unable to be as active as they once were, which causes strain on the heart and other circulatory systems, causing fatigue, and eventually cardiac arrest.

Well Arc, do you think they will find a way to stop the degradtion?

now but studies have show that an average human eats 4000 calories a day if you cut that in have it has been said that you can live longer

Not in this world but you can live longer but not forever. You eat half the calories you usually eat in your life. Example, you usually eat 2,000 calories everyday, eat 1,000 and scientists found out that the man who did this is now 40 years old and has a heart rate of a twenty year old so you can live longer but not forever. I hear you can live forever when you die and you beleive in christanity.

Hmm, honestly I don't know. Aging is not just about cell degradation but also the fact that after a while the body stops cell growth to replace those that fade away. Some scientists have even said aging can be looked at as a disease. If we were able to keep cells reproducing and all, we may be able to extend life for quite a long time. Of course, this would have an impact on society as people would not die out by aging so a lot would have to change in that way but that's probably for another discussion. I do not know if it could be done to the point that we'd be 'immortal' but I do think we could enhance the life expectancy quite a bit if scientists could figure out a way to have continual cell growth going on.

It is possible to reverse age as well as create a state of immortality if you work at a cellular level. However the chances of surviving more then 1000 years without accident or disease is very low.

For those who are truly interested in this subject, look up the name Aubrey De Grey.

Very cool, Cin. It is interesting to see that people are now coming out more forward about the possibility. I'm used to only having these things debated and brought up in my science classes. Thanks for the link.

well seeing how two hundred years ago the thought of space travel was considered pure science fiction is common reality for us today, i'd say that as of right now, this is not possible and strictly sci-fi. Give it another 50-100 years and who knows?

not much further than we have already Roxas, I do not forsee people living longer than they are now really for another couple hundred years, if at all.

Something as complicated as that could take many generations to master.

I don't think we can be immortal on our own, but *shrugs* it could be possible scientifically. I don't know for sure though.

It all depends on to what extent or method we desire something such as that. I would only imagine a select few people would truly like immortality.

I Honestly Think It Will Be Possible... But In My Opinion... I wouldnt want to live forever.
I think it is pointless... You Would Get Board with everything, When You Grow You Experience mor wonders!
SO I think it will be possible.. But Not For Me!

Yea I learned about this stuff in biology, it's being looked into, but its far from practical or ethical as of now. Like how cancer cells don't mature.

thanks for the link, nice piece for the subject.

The idea of a person actually living over 400 years seems unlikely, the mental strain for someone living for that long will be tremdously high, making the person have a high chance of losing their sanity, attempting suicide, going into a murderous rage and all the things you would expect from someone who has seen 100s of years of life death destruction, losing people you love and so on.

Also if we were to effectively become immortal the characteristics of being a human would eventually change making us more like 'gods' changing our behaviour and socail order. So technically we would not be humans but and offshot of human beings since many human characteristics would not be the same as these immortals.

Also, if anyone has any thoughts about becoming immortal thanks to a spiritual level than say so. One thought could be that if we do have a soul that stays with us as long as we live, if we harness a way to keep it in our bodies we would efectively be able to live forever. Or maybe, if we were to use a system in which our minds could control the aging system stopping it or turning it backwards completly would give us immortality and also the ability to switch between ages.
