Brother's Calligraphy

My brother has been doing calligraphy and has asked me to get some characters that make normal sentences, he has "mastered" the ones you normally find like Happyness, spirit ect....Can anyone post a few normal ones?

They don't actually mean anything on their own. They're letters used to spell out words. The top chart is used for native words (e.g. Sushi would be spelt with the symbol for "Su" and "Shi" in that order) while the bottom chart is used for foreign words, including English. For example, radio would be spelt as rajio due to limitations in their character set. It would use the symbols "Ra", "Ji" and "O", in that order. You can spell names using this method. Remember, Japanese is phonetic, so it doesn't matter how the English is spelt, it matters how the English is pronounced.

You walk up to the person, look 'em straight in the eye and then say, repeat after me: "Can you lock this thread for me, please?"
Notice the 'please' at the end, it functions to be polite.

And that's how you say a sentence to a different human being. That wasn't so hard now, was it?
