I've been a Bioware fanboy even before I knew what the hell a Bioware was. So tell me. Which one of Bioware's masterpieces had the best character party. Personally, I liked Mass Effect 2's mix of races and personalities, and KOTOR's memorable characters like HK-47. What do you think? Which game had the best collection of companions?

I hate having to pick these kinds of things. I've play kotor, kotor2, mass effect, mass effect 2, baldurs gate, and a little of jade empire and dragons age. I went with mass effect 2 for the same reason that you had, plus i liked pulling snipes with garrus and legion. Avatar and sig kinda show why i chose what i chose.....

Biased here because I haven't played any of the games, save for KotOR, heh.

But I honestly loved the party, I don't think the game would have been nearly as enjoyable without them. Each character had depth and a story to tell, and while some of them annoyed me out of my mind (coughcoughJuhani), there was someone there for everyone. I liked mixing up my parties to see how they interacted with one another (Mission and Bastila fighting? haha) and how they played off of each other when they interjected into my conversations (Carth and Bastila fighting? haha). It just added a whole new level of depth to the game that was so new to me.

Not to mention that, like The Fuk? said, there were some truly memorable ones mixed in--like HK-47, who might be one of the most popular droids in the EU.

If the other games listed are anything close I will definitely give them a go, I've been wanting to check out Dragon Age anyway.

Though I've only played minor bits of Mass Effect and KotOR 2, I've played plenty of Mass Effect 2 and have loved the different characters for the party. Misty basically took everything there was to say about how the depth of the characters within the parties changed the game entirely, but nonetheless, I agree.

I've enjoyed Mass Effect 2's party, but that's the only game I've extensively played.

Though I love KotOR's party (KotOR 2 I thought had better but that's not Bioware, that Obsidian) and I loved some classics in Jade Empire (Black Whirlwind, what a drunken crazed man. I love it!) the best party in it's entirety has to be Dragon Age: Origins.
I can remember each and every party member and how each of them have made me laugh at one point. But not only laugh, but actually care for them and their backstory, from the cynical ex-templar turned Grey Warden and the killer Bard turned religious Sister to the monosyllabic honourable giant and the bi-sexual elven assassin who is partial to leather. Not one of them was forgetable.

As much as I love Mass Effect 1 and 2, also Kotor and Jade EMpire, DA:O has the best party by far. Love em.

Dragon Age Origins. It's the only one I've owned myself and played long enough to see the whole cast.

Dragon Age Origins. It's the only game up there (Besides DA2) that I've gotten into. Even though I liked the cast in DA2 I thought the cast, as a whole, in DAO had better personalities. DA2 had some excellent characters (Isabela, Varric) but others let were weak by Bioware's standards.
