Billy Zane or Richard Epcar?

I personally prefer Billy Zane's. Sounds more fitting for Ansem's character imo.

 

Billy Zane suits Ansem in KH1. Not so much aftezr KH's plot took and anime to the everything

 

I like Epcar, he's a great and versatile voice actor.
But honestly, Zane did a perfect job with Ansem in the first game. Charming allure of evil, pure conviction in his madness and generally emotionally on point each time.

 

Billy Zane. No contest

 

They both suit Ansem, though I feel Zane does a better job. His voice is so robust yet understated, whereas after listening to the comparison it feels like at times Epcar is either half asleep or is trying to do his own interpretation of what Zane did and is failing miserably.

 

Billy Zane has a more calm and threatening voice, so I'd say he's the better Ansem SoD

 

When I first entered this thread, my heart was set on Billy Zane. But after watching the clip, I realised that I've become used to Epcar's portrayal of Ansem SoD. :c Which kinda sucks because I remember adoring Zane's voice as him.

I still voted for Zane because his voice is just delicious though. And because the line, "Kingdom Hearts, fill me with the power of darkness..!" is delivered perfectly by Zane, whereas Epcar's is a little lackluster by comparison.

 

Now there's 2 for Richard! Im not going to play the (insert name here) is better game. At the end of the day what one person likes another dislikes. They both play the character differently, eg. the "kingdom hearts fill me with the power of darkness" scene. To me for Billy it seems more like a "give me power so I can finish these fools" while Richard on the other hand its like a gasp for life pretty much (at a guess it's what the director wanted). One thing that would be instresting is what would re com be like if Billy voiced Ansem? Since with the "insolent brat!" line, Richard does show the anger of the character well (personally).
I rather Richard, Im not saying there's anything wrong with Billy he does an amazing job but I like Richard maybe it is since at the back of my mind he is a familiar voice from my childhood (Myotismon). Maybe it is since I can't remember his voice that well, but I have a hard time imagining Billy in kh2 where (roughly) Riku says "I am no one, just a cast away from the darkness".

Epcar is too...I feel as he had less energy in his voice than Zane!

Was it really his voice?!

 

Billy Zane's the better voice actor for Ansem, Seeker of Darkness in my opinion. Although, I was used to Epcar's voice since KHII is the first game I've played on the PS2.

 

I've often wondered what Ansem's lines post-KH1 would sound like with Zane.

 

On a serious note, I don't think Morgan Freeman would be good at all for Ansem.

 

I agree, but still, its a very entertaining idea.

 

Morgan Freeman as Ansem SoD? Lol, no thank you. Morgan Freeman plays a much better God.

 

C'mon, Morgan could do it... I can just hear his old soothing voice saying now "Darkness, darkness.... darkness darkness darkness.... darkness..." and then ending off the amazing and delectably evil speech with him screaming out at Sora and his companions: "DARKNESS!!!"

 

Richard Epcar all the way. Why? Simply because he's more dedicated to the character. Zane only did one KH game. Every other game had Ansem voiced by Epcar. I admire committed VAs.
