Please explain why you think (insert science fiction movie title here).

You cannot say 'Star Wars Episode 3 is the best science fiction movie ever because it is...it just simply is.' You must explain why and what makes you think it is the best movie ever.

Btw, if it's a trilogy or series, eg Star Wars, Star Trek, say which one, not just Star Wars.

I think the 'Best Science Fiction Movie Of All Time' would have to be Star Wars - Episode 4: A New Hope. It was practically the movie that started the fandom, a classic and fantastic story of good versus evil and it had a Wookie in it. Everyone loves the Wookies.

I second the wookie thing, but I'd have to say that my favorite science fiction movie is Star Wars Episode 3 because of how they show the drama, fear, and anger that drove Anikan to join the dark side and become Darth Vader.

Star Wars: A New Hope is without a doubt the best science fiction movie. It breathed new life into the genre.

I also love Tron...not the best Disney film, but you can tell a lot of work was put into it...and hey, it was one of the best worlds in KH2.

Definitely the Empire Strikes Back....best plot twist ever (besides the one in kotor, for those that played)

Plus it was just incredibly serious and introduced so many cool new characters and locales. It was the first time a sequel was just as good as the first movie.

Oh and ESB >>>>>>>> RotS. :)

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back because it managed to carry on what A New Hope had started. It provided hints into Darth Vader's appearence, while also showing more of his personality. It started the Han Solo/Leia Organa romance, and it has such classic lines as:

"No Luke. I am your father."

Not to mention it introduces Boba Fett, who is an amazing character in the extended universe, and it was the first movie with Yoda and the Emperor, who both carry on to be crucial to the rest of the series.

Everyone knows that the whole Star Wars series are the best Sci-Fi films ever period. I don't even have to explain it, because they were all simply amazing (though they could have worked on TPM and AOTC >__>)and provided influence for many future films.

How many Sci-Fi movies have a bunch of people who got together to invent a language for wookies and can actually talk it xDDD

I liked Stargate, but I thought Star Wars was pretty good too.

Star Trek was pretty cool, as was Star Wars. But I must say The Third Element is my favorite. It had dancing aliens, a crazy-haired dude with an insanely powerful laser gun, AND Bruce Willis. If Star Wars had Bruce Willis, it would win.

    My favourite science fiction films would have to be Back to the Future and The Terminator.... ^_^;

Back to the Future.. because it's awesome and I've loved it ever since I was a kid. How can anyone not like it? It's suspenseful, adventurous, romantic, comedic... The music is good and well.. Marty McFly was my first crush. =D

The Terminator is one of my favourites because as well as having lots of suspense, violence and death, it's got the whole love story with Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese. :3

The Twilight Zone is also pretty good too.

Without a doubt, Star Wars was the best ever made. Once they tagged the (New Hope) onto it it just got better as more sequels came out.

But the original Star Wars beats all.

I liked Stargate myself. I've always been mildly obsessed with Egypt and that was perhaps what got me to watching it.

It's a highly imaginative story and the actors had to learn a new language for it. I don't remember what it was called exactly but I believe it was a dialect of Ancient Egyptian.

Another strong point was Ra {played by Jaye Davidson}, he's gorgeous to look at and yet he's a Tyrant.

As for SG1, it retains the feel of the movie yet...brings in new elements.
