Hey, I just finished my book, and have decided to read some anime. I've read a few anime books, not many, so I'm basically starrting of. What'd you say's the best book for a begginer manga reader?
_MOVED to the Literature section. I read these series: Godchild: Definitely not a good "starting-out" manga, because the plot can get very complicated and it is not a very traditional sort of manga, but still worth a read. Death Note: You might enjoy this series. It's immensely popular, however it can seem very dragged out and complicated at times. High School Debut: This is a very girly manga, but if you're into that stuff you'd like it~. Vampire Knight: Another pretty girly manga (also referred to as 'shojo'), but it's entertaining, although a bit slow. Kingdom Hearts: Yes, there's a Kingdom Hearts manga series. They don't directly follow the game, but are true to it. It's a more of a comedic view of the series. Hikaru No Go: This was one of my first mangas and I think you would enjoy it. It's very gender-neutral, not at all complicated, and entertaining. Yu-Gi-Oh!: Not for everyone, but the first seven volumes are great. Don't judge the series based upon the anime, it's not a true adaptation.
The first manga book I read was Kingdom Hearts. They're really good! Ummm.... I read The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya in proper book form and thats good.
Well here are some that I have read. Ouran High School Host Club-A Shojo manga, but it's about a girl who is mistaken for a guy that breaks a priceless vase, and the host club she has to work in. King of Thorn-Very hard to find Toykopop book, but you can order it online, it's a 6 book series that is about a girl who finds herself in a world with a strange illness that turns people into stone, and the monsters that come from dreams. Translucent-A Dark Horse manga that is really, really good. I have only read two so far but I think there are more.
you mean manga? Petshop of Horrors is hugely amazing. The best I've ever read. I also like Legal Drug, but clamp won't get off their lazy butts and continue the series.
I started manga with the Kingdom Hearts manga series, which are lighthearted and fun but really not great in terms of art or storytelling. Art's good but not anything fantastic, the story is pretty choppy and quick compared to the games. Still though, they're great to introduce you to the manga 'world' as they read left-to-right instead of the other way around as with many manga, you've already experienced the story, etc. Then in the Chain of Memories manga, it switches to right to left, so you can learn to read them that way. I read some of Mamotte Shugogetten in a store once and it was mildly entertaining =P. But it is romance/shoujo. My favorite manga ever is Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (the manga is known as Higurashi When They Cry in English, the anime just When They Cry), but it's so violent and nonlinear that I wouldn't recommend it if you're just starting out. Someone mentioned The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya earlier; I'd recommend the novel, manga, or anime of that in a heartbeat; Death Note is also pretty good but it's very involving keeping up with the story. If you're willing to devote a crapload of time to catching up you could always try something like Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Inuyasha etc. They're very popular and for that reason considered overrated by many (I myself have only watched six episodes of Naruto and read some One Piece, but not watched), but they're great for starting out because they're easy to find in stores and online.
Well here are some you could read: Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicals Negima Vampire Knight Anima+ DNAngel That's it. All great mangas.
Either Yu-Gi-Oh, or Kingdom Hearts... That's what I would do if I would start off. EDIT: I recommend One Piece, it's so much better than the anime(which was pretty good already). Naruto is also pretty good, but kinda difficult to read.
Seconding One Piece, adding Black Cat, just skip the anime version of Black Cat, it is a mediocre, shortened and *******ized adaptation.
