The art of teaching a kid to use sentences without using them yourself. Kid: *places a bag of chips on my lap* Me: *keeps watching movie* Kid: *pointing* Chips. Me: Yep. Kid: Me chips. Me: Sentence? Kid: *glares* Me: *goes back to movie* Kid: I want chips. Me: *glares* Kid: ... Please. Me: *leaves to put chips in a bowl*
Nice. XD I went through that with my youngest sister back in the day. Sis: *points at window* Me: *Ignores* Sis: Hey. Me: Yes? Sis: *Points at window* Me: *Also points at window* Sis: No. Me: What? Sis: Curtains. Me: What about 'em? Sis: *Glares* Me: *Fake confused expression* Sis: Shut 'em. Me: Shut what? Sis: Curtains. Me: Say it all together, please. Sis: *Rolls eyes* Shut the curtains. Me: Shut the curtains, what? Sis: Shut the curtains, please. Me: *Shuts curtains*
Not so much getting them to use full sentences, but my nieces (especially the younger one) have a tendency to slur their words together, and it's really hard for me to understand them. I frequently have to remind them to enunciate.
I tend to babysit older kids, it's not getting them to talk, it's getting them to stop talking and go to sleep ;-; I will do it! Even if I actually have to sit on them >:3
I think if I ever tried babysitting I'd probably fall asleep before the kid I'm supposed to keep an eye on.
