A couple of weeks ago, one of the biggest controversies in Australia's government history occurred when the Labor party betrayed the then current Prime Minister (Kevin Rudd) as he had his title threatened and was replaced with Julia Gillard, the now new and first Australian Prime Minister. Kevin Rudd backed down from his position as the votes from the Labor party were very much against him. Now as a current election is coming up, some people are confused as to who to vote for as the opponent Liberal party has had a bad reputation since the prime minister before K-Rudd had screwed up the job system, and now the Labor party are seen as robotic suck-ups as when things were getting tough for them, they stabbed K-Rudd in the back. What pissed many Australians off was that K-Rudd was the preferred PM choice over J-Gillard, yet they didn't get a choice. To those in Australia, what are your opinions? Will your vote change? If your too young, has your opinion changed? To those outside of Australia, if this happened to your country, how would you feel?
My personal opinion, I'd be thrilled if it happened in the U.S. Australia, no offense to the Australian's out there, tends to be more of a male-oriented culture. I think it's good a woman has finally broken the ranks. It's not wrong to have a male-oriented culture or female. It's just nice to see it change once in a while. I keep hoping for a female president. We just got a black president, why not a female one? In any case, I hope she does well and leaves a legacy behind for other inspiring women.
That's funny, my uncle's girlfriend rubbed shoulders with her the other day. Anyway: I don't think it's any big deal. It's just another leader that people believe in. I honestly think that the first female president of the US shouldn't be considered anything special, just like how Obama is no more special than any other president. I can't stand the idea that just because somebody is the first minority leader of a country it sets him/her apart from all the others. In my honest opinion that isn't meant to offend anyone, considering Obama or this Julia Gilliard to be any more special than other leaders is just racist/sexist. It might seem like something significant, but Obama's election and Gilliard's possible election won't end up being something for the history books. If anything, it'll just be an, "Oh yeah, and he/she was our first black/female President/Prime Minister." This is only my opinion, but I'm sure other people think this as well.
I'M AUSTRALIAN! Lemme tell u wats happening now! Ok, so basically Kevin Rudd stepped down from the title of PM, and now Julia Gillard is. But Liberal minister Tony Abbott is running against her now for the position, so now we have an election. Personally I'm pissed. There was no election between Rudd and Gillard, I wanted Rudd to stay. But if I were allowed to vote, I'm voting Gillard. This is Aussie citizen over and out!
Obama is special in the way that Thurgood Marshall is special; his race doesn't make him better than any other leader, that's certain, but it is a landmark in American History. It will most certainly be put into history books, because it is an important event for any African American, or any minority in America. If President Obama can do it, why can't they represent their own race in the US government? Similarly, if some wonderful time traveling went on and Hilary Clinton was elected, it would be an important milestone in US history. Personally, I can't say anything about the new Prime Minister's politics, but it's nice to see a woman being elected. ;o
