I have this friend who refuses to admit that this is true and will insist that once you like something you always have to like it. I've tried to explain to him that as people grow older their tastes will change, it's natural, you won't always like the same things, and you may even grow to dislike some things you used to like because they may be tied to bad memories or a bad time in life. I know personally there are some types of music or bands that I used to love, but I don't now, and part of the reason is because of where I was in life during the time that I liked them. So what do you think, and how have your tastes changed as you aged? I mean obviously there are things that we liked when we were really little that we don't like now, but if anything this is only an example of how this is natural.
Yeah. I used to play with my Hot Wheels toys. Now, I play video games like Skyrim, Kingdom Hearts, Team Fortress 2, etc. I used to watch cartoons, but now I watch Supernatural, Doctor Who, etc. (Although I still watch Phineas and Ferb.) I used to like Yellow but now I prefer Blue. I can go on, but it will take forever to type.....
Some of the more childish things I used to like aren't exactly...things I don't really care for now(some shows I used to watch when I was five) but generally speaking I still like many of the things I did when I was much younger. I've just expanded my tastes. So I just like more things now that I didn't when I was younger. I remember watching Spongebob when it was still a new show. Years later, I still love Spongebob! So does my brother who's five years older than me.
My tastes tend to broaden. I still like the music, movies and games I liked in high school, but I also like genres now that I (would have) found dreadful back then. So yes, my tastes do change but primarily in a single direction.
It depends on the person, and the subject of their affections to an extent. If it's just a really good thing that every age can appreciate, like Animaniacs or Super Mario RPG, then it's more likely to leave a lasting impression. I think tastes do change, but it's not about age; it's about what social circles you enter into, what forms of entertainment and art you know about, who you are as a person, so on and so forth. It has a correlation with age because one is more likely to branch out in more directions as they grow older, but some people find what they like early on in life and stick with it, and there's nothing wrong with that. You're not required to be a different person with different interests every time a birthday ticks.
My tastes change a lot, when I first saw the title of the thread I thought you were referring to taste buds and the sort of foods you like changes xD Anyway, I can't think of anything that I will no longer touch because I despise it so much when I used to love it but my tastes and obsessions do shift. Like I used to live and breath Bleach and watch it as soon as a new episode became available but I still watch it now but I must be at least 10 episodes behind if not more. Right now Doctor Who is my thing, even my allegiance within that show changes over time- like Tennant used to be my favourite Doctor but that changed. I have to agree with Nova, what I like also is influenced heavily by my social circles and experiences. It could be things that my friends like, a few years ago I watched and loved Genga Densetsu Weed after she told me to watch it but it's barely crossed my mind since, not to say I don't like it now but it just doesn't interest me. I may grow to dislike something if I grow up and see it as absolutely terrible e.g. the acting is bad or something along those lines which would turn me off it that I didn't notice when I watched it while younger. An example may be Two and a half men, I used to enjoy that quite a bit but now I will turn it over if it's on, nothnig personally against it I just find it crude and not very funny any more.
So when I was younger I loved the Charlie Bone book series. Now I reread it about a year ago and it wasn't bad but... It wasn't nearly as awesome as I remembered it at all. The writing just didn't seem as well either but I guess that can be excused since it is a childrens book series after all.
