I don't know if Nomura said anything about them being canon or not. But if people are discussing KH, they're discussing the games, not the manga or novels. So I would assume they aren't canon

I have never read or heard of the novels, but the manga seems to follow the canon story line, adding little details for humorous effect here and there. I haven't seen any official confirmation on Nomura's part that says the novels/manga are canon, but as far as I'm concerned, they probably are, if they are indeed following the story lines of the games they're based on.

    This.

I happen to own the manga for the first game and have read the first two volumes of the second, and this is basically it. Amano adds little jokes here and there to lighten the mood, and he also shows us a few scenes of what it would be like inside the gummi ship, but other than that it follows the canon of the games very closely. I doubt Nomura would even have to confirm it as canon or not seeing as how they're relatively similar.

I think they are until they go against the game's plot.... until them all new info should be counted as cannon.

This. For example, the CoM manga has Vexen creating a bunch of replicas of himself, which never even happened in the game.

I own the mangas for KH, CoM, and KH2. As I've also played these games on the PS2, I can testify to the fact that they follow the basics of the plot closely. The mangas do take liberties here and there--usually to add some well-placed touches of humor. For example, in CoM manga, there's a gag about the Organization's chore list and how Vexen is stuck with all of the undesirable jobs (such as cleaning the bathroom). I remember there being another gag about Squall and Yuffie being paid in riceballs for protecting the citizens of Hollow Bastion.

I don't know if I would call the mangas "canon" so-to-speak, but they do generally portray an accurate view of the Kingdom Hearts plot. I wouldn't necessarily use them as your only source for keeping up with the story, but they are must-haves for any fan who has played--and enjoyed--the franchise as a whole.

Definitely agree with this. The manga doesn't really contradict anything that happens in the games, nor do (I believe) the novels, though I've not read them. They follow the story pretty closely, albeit with some artistic license. But I think the only true canon we should go on is the games and the ultimania--basically, anything straight from Nomura's mouth. Everything else is pretty faithful, I don't think there are any glaring contradictions in the series, so there's no need to have the "what is canon and what isn't" discussion, but I'm sticking with Nomura, much as I love the manga.

Being that I never had a PS2 to play the games on, I have to go by the manga so when I talk about it, I AM talking about the manga.
