Because I wonder if anyone can tell me if there is a Japanese equivalent of a phoenix?
Something that rises again after spectacular death!

Please and thanks for any help! : )

Yep, it's one of those . . . what do you call em'? . . . Oh yea, it's a phoenix.[DOUBLEPOST=1358479240][/DOUBLEPOST]On a more serious note, here's a link to a site about how the phoenix was adopted into the Japanese mythology. So the phoenix is also part of the Japanese mythology, just a different name.

It's also called 'Suzaku'. The Phoenix/red bird is Guardian of the South.

Seriyuu is a blue dragon. Guardian of the East.
Byakko is a white tiger Guardian of the West.
Genbu is a black tortise. [Though some versions have him as a black serpent.] Guardian of the North.

Ah yes I knew of Suzaku, yet reading more it seems to be a seperate bird to the Fenghunag Phoenix.

The phoenix in Japanese has the name 'Ho-o' and makes me say that the Pokemon Ho-Oh was based off of this creature.

Thanks guys for pointing me in the right direction. I knew there was something to look up but had no idea what.

Suzaku was mentioned. Therefore I must bring up Final Fantasy Type-0.
