No Thanks Anonymous Posting

I found this cool add-on that allows anonymous posting of posts and threads, both of which are options in the admin control panel that can be disabled if you only want posts, for example.

I'm not sure if it can be used only on certain forums or threads (I'll do some research), but this would be useful for The Postbox, as it would give @NubCat a breather.

Thoughts?

 

Oh gosh, I can personally only see this being abused. I understand the idea you have behind it with the postbox, but I do not know if there is any possible way to avoid people taking advantage of the fact they are anonymous and just... messing around.

ESPECIALLY with newer, random members.

 

I agree with @Cstar . I see this abused on tumblr all the time. And as much as some people can be annoying, or if you just don't like someone I just don't think it's a good idea and would cause more harm than good.

 

I would assume staff could still see who posted and moderate it accordingly, but I do see your guys' point.

 

Unfortunately, I'm absolutely against it, I'm afraid. Anonymity tends to bring with it a slew of problems for people, mainly in the form of anonymous hate and other such things. Like cstar and Spunkeh said, I can only see it bringing more harm than good. I did see the developer mentioning about possibly making it occur in only specific threads, but as it's still on Version 1.0 I don't think that got anywhere yet. Even then, I'd rather not have it enabled as Cat can still see and identify troubling messages and report them so staff can effectively deal with it. With an anonymous feature, unless we could still view IPs with it, that portion of the job would get significantly harder for no gain.

 

Let's go ahead and reject this, then.

You know, I would like to say that we can trust people to be mature here, but, sadly, there are those that would take advantage of the trust as everyone's said.
